CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) — The grandmother of the 17-year-old who's accused of stabbing Lisa Thorborg to death on a Carlsbad hiking trail in November doesn't believe her grandson could have committed the crime.Christie Hernandez said that she talked to her grandson, Haloa Beaudet, just after Tuesday's virtual court hearing where new surveillance images were revealed and the judge allowed the release of the teen's name. Images of his face have been ordered to remain withheld from the public."[He said] 'I'm strong. I'm going to be positive. You and papa [don't need to] worry. Detectives said that his DNA was found on the victim's shorts and a pair of his sandals were found near her body. His attorneys argue that he is a free spirit who often left his sandals behind and Thorborg may have picked them up, which is how his DNA got on her."He would not have done this. It's like stabbing me in the neck," added Hernandez.Hernandez said that he had been living with her and doing online schooling for the last two months after moving to San Diego from Hawaii. She described him as a kind young man who is incapable of violence. "We go to the store and he's helping little old ladies pick out which watermelons are good and which grapes are the sweetest and holding doors open. So, this just really baffles me," she stated. CARACAS, Venezuela — Six American oil executives held for three years in Venezuela have been found guilty of corruption charges and immediately sentenced to prison.The judge’s ruling Thursday came with sentences of more than eight years for each defendant.The verdicts dashed the hopes of relatives for a quick release that would send the men home to the United States.The so-called Citgo 6 had been lured to Venezuela three years ago for a business meeting and arrested. And if you’re in the market for a new two-wheeler, it may be months before you can wrap your fingers around some handlebars.Bicycles seem to be everywhere, unless you’re trying to buy one.At Edgebrook Cycle & Sport in Chicago, bikes have become a hot commodity during the pandemic.“It has been off the charts. It's unprecedented,” said owner Jim Kirsten.So much so that there’s a critical shortage, not just in the Windy City, but everywhere.“We have about 10% of our usual inventory and our service work which you see kind of surrounding me here is about 300% where it normally is,” said Kirsten.In fact, bike racks at retail giants like Walmart, Target and Dick’s Sport Goods are almost completely bare.Online vendors like Torrance, California-based Sixthreezero say demand for their bikes has jumped 800%. They’ve had to triple their staff to handle the increased interest.April sales for traditional bikes, indoor bikes, and other accessories grew by 75% compared to the same time last year and reached billion for the first time in a single month.Industry experts say commuters abandoning public transportation, gym closures and the search for socially distanced recreation created a perfect storm.Today’s bike boom, they say, is one not seen since the oil crisis of the early 1970s.“Mid to low price bicycles are just wiped out across the country,” said Jay Townley, a consultant with Human Powered Solutions. Townley spent much of his 60-year career at Schwinn and as president of Giant Bicycle Company.“Along with new bike sales, bicycle repair has skyrocketed. There are a lot of shops if you call around the shops in your area, you'll find a lot of them are weeks out for repair,” he said.Townley says the U.S. bicycle market is import dependent with more than 90% coming from China.Punitive trade tariffs, supply chain disruptions and lackluster 2019 sales caught manufacturers off guard and forecasts didn’t predict the increased demand accelerated by the pandemic.“Now, we're in a phase where we're trying to get that pipeline to replenish those inventories and that's going to be extremely difficult as we go forward,” said Townley.It could be late fall before supply catches up to demand. CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. — Almost three weeks after a fatal crash that sent a golden-doodle running near Pueblo, Colo., a family has him back in their arms.The family, who was visiting from Wichita, Kansas, had been driving along the edge of a mountain west of Pueblo on Aug. 7, when their vehicle slid off the edge and tumbled 600 feet down an incline, according to the Associated Press. The crash killed Jennifer Orr and seriously injured her 21-year-old daughter, Samantha. The 1-year-old family golden-doodle, Bentley, was thrown from the vehicle and ran away from the crash.In the days after the crash, the family created and actively posted on a Facebook page Bring Bentley Home to try to find the dog. When Samantha Orr was released from the hospital, she returned to the crash site to search for Bentley. Her family posted their thanks and pleas for help every few days on the Facebook page.  On Saturday evening, Samantha Orr posted an update she had been waiting for for 19 days.  In the video, she’s tear-eyed and hugging Bentley.“My heart is BURSTING,” she wrote on Facebook. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who shared, liked, handed out flyers, spread the word, or sent kind words, or any of the millions of ways people have shown their kindness since the accident. The world has so many amazing people in it, I am SO unbelievably grateful.”Bentley was found early Saturday after Orr and others returned to the site.  They spotted him and encouraged him to walk over with food and a toy, according to the AP. He was reluctant at first, but Orr said they slowly moved toward each other. A video captures the reunion.“Good boy, good boy, come here, baby,” Orr said. “Come here Bentley-boo, come here baby boy.”After some encouragement, the dog walked over a patch of rocks to Orr.“And from then it was nothing but tears and celebration!” the post reads. “Bentley is okay, he’s a little malnourished and dehydrated.
