(KGTV) — Police are looking for a missing at-risk woman who disappeared in Escondido.Linda Hallam Brown, 67, has Alzheimer's disease and was last seen in the area of Mission Ave. and Quince St. at about 9:45 p.m. Friday.She is described as 5 feet 2 inches, 118 pounds, with dark grey shoulder-length hair and hazel eyes. ELIZABETH, Colo. — Police in Elizabeth, Colorado are investigating an unprovoked attack in the midst of an 8th-grade classroom at Elizabeth Middle School.Cell phone video posted on social media shows a male student walk over to another male student and repeatedly punch him. The attack occurred sometime this month.The attack appears to have been planned. In the video, the boy who instigated the altercation is heard asking the person recording the video if he “should do it right now?”Elizabeth police told Scripps station KMGH in Denver the boy has since been arrested for assault and sent to a juvenile assessment center. Police aren’t saying much about what prompted the fight because it’s a juvenile case.The school district isn’t answering questions on whether the student has had disciplinary actions in the past. The school district they sent out a letter to parents the day of the attack and released the following statement. 968

Federal authorities are investigating after officials in Massachusetts confirm that a ballot drop box in Boston was set on fire early Sunday morning.According to WCVB-TV in Boston, a ballot drop box out front of the Boston Public Library's main branch in Copley Square was set ablaze around 4 a.m. ET on Sunday morning. Crews eventually extinguished the fire with water.According to WCVB, an "incendiary device" was used to start the fire. WBTS-TV reports that the FBI is investigated in the incident."For the next several weeks, it is a top priority of our offices to help maintain the integrity of the election process in Massachusetts by aggressively enforcing federal election laws," the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office in Massachusetts said in a joint statement.Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin also both condemned the incident in a joint statement.“What happened in the early hours of this morning to the ballot drop box in Copley Square is a disgrace to democracy, a disrespect to the voters fulfilling their civic duty, and a crime,” the statement read. “Our first and foremost priority is maintaining the integrity of our elections process and ensuring transparency and trust with our voters, and any effort to undermine or tamper with that process must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We ask voters not to be intimidated by this bad act, and remain committed to making their voices heard in this and every election.”Officials later determined that there were 122 ballots inside the drop box at the time of the wire. Of those ballots, 87 were legible and able to processed. Thirty-five ballots were damaged, and WBTS reported that "up to 10" cannot be counted.Officials say any Massachusetts voter who dropped off their ballot at the library between 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday and 4 a.m. ET on Sunday should check the status of their ballot on the state's tracking website or contact the city's Elections Department.The incident comes just over a week after a ballot box in southern California was set on fire in an apparent act of arson. 2109

(KGTV) - A 13-year-old boy suffered burns to his face after a science experiment at Capri Elementary School in Encinitas went awry.Priest Rivera, a 6th-grade student, said a teacher was attempting to show a group of students an experiment known as the “black snake” or “carbon snake” when it exploded in his face.The experiment involves mixing sugar and baking soda with a flammable liquid and lighting it on fire to create a snake-like reaction.Rivera said the teacher told them to stand in a semi-circle around her on the field as she lit the experiment on fire.“The teacher kept on pouring more rubbing alcohol onto the flame itself because the flame wasn’t building up,” said Rivera.That’s about all he remembers before waking up in an ambulance with a sharp pain all over his face.“My face was constantly burning and burning,” he said. “I still feel it right now.”He spent six days in the hospital and underwent four surgeries, according to his mom Gina Rivera.“It was just hell,” she said about the experience. “He kept saying, ‘mom am I going to go blind?’”Priest kept his eyesight but two weeks after the accident, still had bandages around his face to protect the burn areas.Gina said it’s still unclear how bad the injuries will end up being though she said the effects will be long-lasting. “It has halted his life. It’s changed his life,” she said.The outgoing superintendent of the Encinitas Union School District, Timothy Baird, told 10News they could not comment on any specifics because the incident involved a student. Many came to witness the damage. 10News spoke to a man who brought his children to the arson scene saying this was a teachable moment.It was a real-life lesson that Yusef Miller never thought he would teach his sons Naeem and Dario at their home mosque. Exactly one week ago, Miller led an interfaith prayer vigil in Escondido's Maple Street Plaza, after a gunman killed 50 Muslims at two New Zealand mosques in a terror attack. But that was 6,900 miles away. The fire was steps from his home. "We didn't anticipate that this would happen here, and so soon after our prayer vigil," Miller said. Escondido Police said what happened early Sunday morning was a targeted arson. The perpetrator left graffiti, referencing the New Zealand attacks. This act of terrorism already had Escondido Police on high alert."Immediately following the shooting at the New Zealand mosque, and informed the folks here locally, and said we will be doing extra patrols," Lt. Chris Lick of the Escondido Police Department said. But clearly, it was not enough. Sunday morning at around 3:00, someone set fire to the side wall of the Islamic Center of Escondido. Police said five people were sleeping inside when the fire started. But mosque members were immediately able to extinguish the flames before fire crews arrived. No one was hurt."We thought we were pretty relaxed, even though we were vigilant. But now that this happened here, we are hyper-vigilant now. This can happen anywhere to anyone," Miller said. "Whoever did this, they meant business. This wasn't just a threat. They had the tools to actually harm people and take lives."His 12-year-old son, Naeem looked at the damage with a blank stare. "It's like you can't be safe anywhere," Naeem Miller said. It was a life lesson Miller wished he never had to teach. But it was an important one on reality."So guys, remember," he said to his sons. "Be safe when you're walking around here. There are people up to no good. But there are a lot of people out here doing good too. Ok? So don't be too nervous walking around here, but still be aware. We're going to be Muslim no matter what. Muslim forever. But be safe.
