Fox News has fired news anchor Ed Henry after it received a complaint about workplace sexual misconduct by him. The network says it hired an outside investigator to look into the charge after getting the complaint on June 25, and fired Henry on the basis of what was found. Henry co-anchored the news hours between 9 a.m. and noon, Eastern time. He had rehabilitated his career at Fox after taking a four-month leave of absence that ended in 2017 after published reports that he had an extramarital affair. Fox said the current complaint was based on an incident that happened "years ago." 597

For years, the White House Correspondents Association has pushed for access to the White House grounds for reporters and news media. On Wednesday, the WHCA told its members to stay away. The White House Correspondents Association’s recommendation came as three of its members are recovering from coronavirus infections. There have also been a number of infections among White House press staffers, including press secretary Kayleigh McEnany. In response to the cluster of coronavirus cases, the WHCA said that only a handful of journalists should work from the White House grounds. The association says other than reporters working at the White House as part of the “pool” as well as those with enclosed offices should refrain from working inside the White House. Pool correspondents are the small, rotating group of reporters who share reports to the rest of the media.“We would also strongly encourage all journalists to avoid working from the White House grounds entirely if it can be avoided,” WHCA chair Zeke Miller said.Miller said that the organization has been pushing for the White House to help with contact tracing.“We have communicated to the White House that, as a press corps, we would like more information to evaluate our own potential exposure,” Miller said. “We have pressed for them to provide updates on known and suspected infections so that reporters can as soon as possible know if they and their families have been put at risk. The administration, citing privacy concerns, has not provided additional details.”Miller said that protocols by White House journalists have helped minimize spread of the virus among its members.“While we are awaiting additional test results for some members, it appears clear that our safe behavior has helped contain this virus,” he said. “We haven’t just been lucky, we have followed science and we have been vigilant.” 1880

Former Donald Trump campaign official Rick Gates pleaded guilty Friday to two criminal charges in special counsel Robert Mueller's wide-ranging investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign and related activities.Gates is now the third Trump associate known to be working with Mueller's investigation, and his plea deal will put the spotlight on former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.Prosecutors are trying to pressure Manafort to speak with prosecutors about what he knows, particularly about the campaign.Gates was Manafort's right-hand man for a decade, was privy to most, if not all, of Manafort's activities during the campaign and stayed in the Trump orbit after Manafort's exit. Manafort has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.In Friday's hearing, Gates told a federal judge that he understood his potential sentence depended on his cooperation with prosecutors on the charges: conspiracy to commit to defraud the United States and making false statements.Gates, bearded and wearing a blue suit, tie and cuff links, listened to the judge read the offenses he is agreeing to plead guilty to and the possibility of being sentenced to up to 57 to 71 months in prison. He said "Yes, your honor" repeatedly as Judge Amy Berman Jackson read the court documents.Thursday, prosecutors described a "scheme" in which the two longtime business partners allegedly laundered million, failed to pay taxes for almost 10 years and used real estate they owned to fraudulently secure more than million in loans.Gates said that despite his "initial desire to vigorously defend myself," he has had a "change of heart" in order to protect his family, according to a letter sent to his family and friends, obtained by CNN from a Gates friend."The reality of how long this legal process will likely take, the cost, and the circus-like atmosphere of an anticipated trial are too much," Gates wrote. "I will better serve my family moving forward by exiting this process."He wrote that it was "difficult decision" to make, but that ensuring his family's "well-being is first and foremost.""The consequence is the public humiliation, which at this moment seems like a small price to pay for what our children would have to endure otherwise," he said.Last Friday, the special counsel produced grand jury indictments for 13 Russian nationals, accusing them of operating a misinformation campaign to hurt Hillary Clinton's presidential effort. In a statement, Manafort maintained his innocence."Notwithstanding that Rick Gates pled today, I continue to maintain my innocence. I had hoped and expected my business colleague would have had the strength to continue the battle to prove our innocence," Manafort said. "For reasons yet to surface he chose to do otherwise. This does not alter my commitment to defend myself against the untrue piled up charges contained in the indictments against me." Plea in motion for weeks 2958

Former FBI Director James Comey warned that if President Donald Trump ever tries to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, then it would be the President's "most serious attack yet on the rule of law," and said that "it's possible" the Russians could have information on Trump that could be used to compromise him.Comey also said Trump is "morally unfit to be president" and claimed there is "certainly some evidence of obstruction of justice" by Trump. The comments came during a wide-ranging, exclusive interview with ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos. The media appearance is the first time Comey has sat for a televised interview since Trump fired him last year. It also kicks off a promotional tour that the former FBI director is embarking on to promote the release of his new book, "A Higher Loyalty." 823

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort has entered a plea of not guilty to charges of bank fraud and tax crimes in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia.Judge TS Ellis set the trial to begin July 10.Prosecutors told said in court they planned to call 20-25 witnesses and the prosecutors' arguments could last up to two weeks. This will be the first of two trials for Manafort this year. A trial on federal charges in Washington, DC, is scheduled to begin in September.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. All rights reserved. 577
