NEW YORK — New York City residents may not be able to eat inside their favorite restaurant until next year.Restrictions around the rest of the state have been eased, but New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is holding off on lifting restrictions on a number of indoor activities."If folks miss the theater, if they miss, you know, the indoor dining, those things will be back," he said Monday. "They'll be back next year at some point. I think that is overwhelmingly the case."He pointed to indoor dining and drinking at bars as a source of the spread of coronavirus cases around the world, but members of the restaurant industry are outraged.They pointed to a Bronx IHOP just across from a Panera Bread that's in Westchester County. Under current restrictions, the IHOP can't have customers, but the Panera Bread has been seating customers inside for more than a month.NYC Hospitality Alliance Executive Director Andrew Rigie warned that workers' livelihoods are at stake."The other week it was, we may not open until we have a vaccine. Then it's we may not open until the new year," Rigie said.The NYC Hospitality Alliance may pursue legal action over the issue. Rigie pointed to restaurants in just over the Queens-Long Island border in Nassau County that are open for indoor dining."Right now, you can sit indoors at a diner in Nassau county, but basically across the street in Queens, you can't," he said. "You can do the same thing in the Bronx. If you go into Westchester County, people are eating indoors. So is COVID somehow different there? I don't think so."Scott Hart, co-owner of 44 & X in Hell's Kitchen, said he was surprised by de Blasio's remarks on reopening Monday."It just doesn't seem like there was a real plan," he said. "To hear that today makes me feel like I don't know how we're going to make it through the winter."Hart spent money to create an outdoor seating area and is currently operating at 35 percent, but he's worried about the weather since colder temperatures are around the corner."If we close because of cold weather, what are we going to do? Put everybody in furlough again for five months again until spring? New information has been released in the FBI and White Lake Township police investigation into the murder of professional poker player Susie Zhao. Police were called to find her burned body on July 13 at 8:05 a.m. in the secluded Pontiac Lake Park in Oakland County.RELATED: Man accused in poker player's brutal death had lengthy criminal historyAccording to court documents obtained by 7 Action News: She was identified by fingerprints. She was bound with zip-ties, and sexually assaulted with a large object before being "lit on fire until she died.”Cell phone records show she met with Jeffery Morris the evening before. After Morris was arrested, he told police he picked up Zhao on Watkins Lake Road and they both checked into the Sherwood Motel at around 9:26 p.m.Morris told police they left the motel to buy some alcohol at a party store and returned to the motel.Morris said Zhao left the motel at midnight “and took all of her belongings including her cell phone with her.”According to the court documents, cell phone records indicate that Zhao’s cell phones did not leave until around 5 a.m. And surveillance footage near the motel and phone records show Morris left at that time and drove to the secluded park. Other evidence shows he was there about seven minutes.Days later, the police and FBI would locate Morris and his vehicle in Ypsilanti. A search found several footwear impressions, several hairs, fibers and other items with possible blood stains.Investigators also found duffle bags with Morris’ identification, a fitted bed sheet with apparent blood stains as well as a wooden baseball bat with a possible big blood stain. Those are being tested at the Oakland County Crime Lab.Police said last week the motive for the murder and the reason Morris and Zhao met are still under investigation.Early speculation was "Susie Q," as she’s known in the poker circuit, may have been killed in connection with being a professional player living in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.But now the evidence shows this was home grown deadly trouble that she faced when she met up with Morris, a convicted sex offender. NEW YORK (AP) — The one-time bookselling giant Barnes & Noble is being acquired by a hedge fund for 6 million.The national chain that many blamed for the demise of independent bookstores has been ravaged by Amazon.com and other online sellers. Independent bookstores have also persisted in the face of digital publishing.The company said in October that it might put itself up for sale after it was approached by a number of potential buyers, including founder Leonard Riggio who opened Barnes & Noble stores across the country and turned it into a superstore.Barnes & Noble said Friday that it's being acquired by Elliott Management for .50 per share, an approximately 9% percent premium to the company's Thursday closing stock price. Elliott bought the U.K. bookseller Waterstones in June 2018.Waterstones CEO James Daunt will also take on the role of CEO at Barnes & Noble.The sale, valued at about 3 million including debt, is targeted to close in the third quarter if approved by regulators and shareholders.Shares of the New York company jumped 11% before the opening bell. 1111
