SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Nearly 300 goats are munching away at brush on and around Cuyamaca College.The college contracted with Environmental Land Management and its goats to help with fire mitigation.A preserve surrounds the 165-acre campus. The goats and ELM staff and machinery will clear about 50 acres of brush in six to eight weeks. The goats are estimated to do 65 percent of the clearing work.Julianna Barnes, the President of Cuyamaca College, says the goats are a way to be pro-active during the fire season.“Usually we bring out an all-human crew with heavy machinery,” Barnes said, “but it’s actually 20 percent the cost of bringing in an all-human crew. And it’s more environmentally sound.”The goats will eat 7- to 10-percent of their body weight. Also, goats do not re-seed plant life in their excrement, according to the college.“We have a lot of non-native plants, and they’re highly flammable,” Barnes said, “(The goats) love to eat, and they love these non- native plants.” 994

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Wednesday, emotional testimony was read in a downtown courtroom by the husband and wife who were brutally attacked in an economy parking lot outside of the San Diego International Airport. The testimony was read during the sentencing hearing for Alberto Jauregui, who pleaded guilty to attempted murder. Jauregui appeared to show no remorse. He smirked and smiled at the couple and at our camera. It was last October when police say Jauregui came up to Donna Kashani and husband Robert Bobbett in the parking lot. He reportedly grabbed Kashani by her neck and demanded the keys to their SUV. “You put me in a headlock with a 10-inch knife to my neck and you were dragging me into our SUV and demanding that I get in with you,” Kashani told him and the courtroom.  In a heroic move, Bobbett threw himself in front of her and charged at Jauregui.  “As I rushed toward you, I truly believed I was going to die in this struggle,” Bobbett told Jauregui and the courtroom. He added, “You stabbed me in the chest nearly hitting my heart. All the while [you were] screaming ‘Die, die, die!’”  Bobbett was stabbed six times and nearly died.  Jauregui was caught days later. During Wednesday’s sentencing hearing, he told the courtroom, “You guys have made a big mistake by not giving me help. Instead of giving me help, you want to punish me.” He’ll spend the next 13 years in state prison. 1456

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — North Park residents will celebrate this holiday season with an annual tradition intact — at least for one more year.For 56 years, the Toyland Parade has delighted crowds in North Park during the holiday season. But much like a parade balloon, financial troubles have loomed over organizers.Last year, the parade was briefly canceled after former-host Victoria House Corporation said it had lost support from sponsors. Angela Landsberg, executive director with North Park Main Street, says support from the local Lions Club has saved 2019's parade, but 2020 is a different story."Our presenting sponsor North Park Lions Club have ensured that it's going to go off this year, but if we don't raise enough money this year to get us carried through our planning for next year, because these things take a long time to plan, then this will be the final year," Landsberg told 10News. The organization is asking for the community to once again step in to make sure the parade steps off on University Avenue next year. Police and first responders rendered medical aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the incident. Officers said the man was a homeless person who frequented the area.
