Special counsel Robert Mueller raised the notion of subpoenaing President Donald Trump in at least one meeting with the President's lawyers, two sources familiar with the matter tell CNN.Mueller floated the possibility of subpoenaing Trump to testify before a grand jury if he refused to sit down for an interview with the special counsel, The Washington Post first reported on Tuesday, citing four people familiar with the encounter. The exchange between special counsel investigators and Trump's lawyers, which took place in early March according to the Post, prompted Trump's then-lawyer John Dowd to respond, "This isn't some game.""You are screwing with the work of the President of the United States," Dowd continued, two people with knowledge of his comments told The Washington Post. One source confirmed to CNN that Dowd retorted sharply to the special counsel's suggestion. Dowd has since left the legal team.Mueller is leading the probe investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election and any potential connections between Trump campaign associates and the Kremlin. Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion. 1139
Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigators met with members of President Donald Trump's legal team on the same day that the FBI was launching a raid targeting the President's personal attorney, according to sources familiar with the matter. The timing of the Monday raid made for an awkward meeting, which had been previously scheduled as part of preparations for a possible interview between the President and Mueller's team.Jay Sekulow, who leads the President's legal team, did not comment on the timing of the meeting."We do not discuss conversations we have had or have not had with the special counsel," he said. The raid on Cohen's home, hotel room and office brings the Mueller investigation deep inside the President's inner circle -- Cohen has worked with Trump for years and is treated as a confidant and a member of his family.A source close to the President said there have been ongoing negotiations between Mueller's team and the President's legal team for a potential interview, but the raid on the President's personal attorney has upended those discussions. CNN reported last week that members of the legal team have been informally prepping the President for a possible interview, though no decision on the matter has been made. The President's anger over the raid as well as a new assessment of what the implications of the raid could be for Cohen's most prominent client, Trump, are factors that the President's legal team has to take into account. 1477
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont woman whose family peacock ran off with a flock of turkeys says she's hopeful to get close enough to catch it with a net.The peacock belonging to Rene and Brian Johnson has been on the run for six weeks. On Wednesday, the Johnsons posted a message on the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Facebook page: "My peacock has run off with the turkeys. Do you have any suggestions on how to catch the little twerp?"Rene Johnson told WCAX-TV she thinks the bird she calls Pea was lonely so it sought turkey companions.Johnson said Friday she got close to Pea on Thanksgiving Day, but couldn't catch it.Johnson says she's worried about the cold, but she recognizes the unusual situation, which she says is "kind of funny, actually." 766
