SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Efforts to streamline the construction of a massive transportation hub in the Midway District and update the Navy's Old Town campus have been approved by the state.Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 2731 this week, which will allow the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) to quicken the environmental review process in order to build a transit hub connecting to San Diego International Airport and redevelop the Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR) Old Town campus site, should the Navy partner with SANDAG.The bill, introduced by California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria and Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Firefighters have extinguished the fire that caused a hotel near Harbor Island Park to be evacuated Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters say the two-alarm fire broke out at the Sheraton on the 1300 block of Harbor Island Drive. No one was injured, but the fire, which took place in the hotel's elevator shaft, caused at least 0,000 in damage. Firefighters were alerted to the fire after they say people reported heavy smoke coming from the elevator shaft.At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown.  551

According to officials with the Workforce Partnership, walk-ins won’t be accepted, however some services will be available by appointment only.“Our resources have always been available online, and actually the number one way people file for unemployment in or out of a public health emergency is online,” said Andrew Picard, chief program Officer at the San Diego Workforce Partnership.Picard said if people don't have a computer or internet access, don't worry, the phone still works. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Homes burned overnight Sunday as the Valley Fire raged through the East County, burning thousands of acres and prompting a state of emergency declaration.Video from the scene showed structures and vehicles scorched by the flames. So far, 11 structures have been destroyed by the fire.As of Sunday at 8:47 p.m., the fire has so far scorched 9,850 acres and is 1% contained, Cleveland National Forest says.Evacuation orders have been issued for Barrett Lake Dam, while evacuation warnings have been issued for Lake Marina, Dulzura, Dog Patch, Potrero, Campo, Honey Springs, Barrett Junction, Dearhorn Valley, Corte Madera, Pine Valley, and the area from Lyons/Japatul Valley Rd. to the 8 Freeway.Overnight into Monday, fire crews say the fire is expected to remain active because of the lack of overnight moisture.Structures are being threatened in the Carveacre and Lawson Valley, Wood Valley, Lyons Valley, and Deer Horn Valley. The agency added that power lines that supply a large portion of San Diego County are also threatened.SDG&E says they are working with CalFire to solve any outages due to the fire, but need to wait for approval for their crews to be allowed into the area and to re-energize power lines. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Flu activity is slowing down throughout San Diego County, the County Health and Human Services Agency said Wednesday.Across the county, 14 more flu deaths have been identified over the last week, though 10 of those fatalities happened earlier in the season and have just now been confirmed.A total of 283 flu deaths have occurred in the county this season.
