BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- China has made steady progress in containing the spread of illegal publications and cracking down on the dissemination of lewd content through the Internet and mobile phones in 2010, according to the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications.The office has recently disclosed the following facts and figures about the related efforts China has made so far this year:-- Around 44.37 million copies of illegal publications, including 981,000 copies of lewd content, 37.35 million pirated copies, some 3.93 million illegal copies of newspapers and magazines, among others, have been confiscated across China.-- More than 16,000 cases, including over 10,000 ones of pirated publications, 1,669 cases involving pornography, and 371 cases involving fake journalists, news reports or media outlets, have been uncovered this year.-- China has shut down more than 60,000 porn websites since launching a crackdown in December 2009.-- Law enforcers across China during a campaign launched in April had destroyed a total of 36.39 million copies of pirated or illegal publications, audio and video discs.-- The office has received over 170,000 tip-offs, mostly about the online or cellphone-based spreading of porn content this year and 534 people have been rewarded 544,000 yuan (81,964 dollars) for the information provided.-- Authorities in Zhongshan City of southern Guangdong Province shut down a huge disc-producing outfit with five production lines and confiscated 3.87 million illegal discs.

CANCUN, Mexico, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The outcome of the UN climate change conference in Cancun sent "positive" signals to the international community, the Chinese delegation said Saturday.Conference delegates finally reached a deal to fight global warming early Saturday after an all-night session, overruling an objection from Bolivia."As for the outcome of this conference, first of all, it adheres to the (UN) Convention (on climate change), the Kyoto Protocol and the Bali Roadmap, as well as the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, which ensures that next year's negotiation will continue along the two tracks decided by the Bali Roadmap," the Chinese delegation said in a statement."Second, progress has been made at different levels in the areas where developing countries have concerns, such as adaptation, technology transfer, finance and capacity building, and the negotiation process will move on, which sends positive signals to the international community," the delegation said.It said the conference failed to conclude the negotiation of the Bali Roadmap and this indicated next year's negotiation task would be "extremely difficult."The delegation expected all parties to display strong political will and conclude the negotiation on the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol at the next conference, to be held in Durban, South Africa. BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's central bank warned about the risk of credit card related bad debt on Thursday as money owed 180 days past the due date was on the rise in the third quarter.Credit cards debt 180 days past the due repayment date stood at 7.92 billion yuan (1.19 billion U.S. dollars) by the end of the third quarter, up 8.5 percent from the second quarter, according to a statement released Thursday on the website of the People's Bank of China.Taking this into account, the central bank warned commercial banks to pay close attention to risks associated with credit card related bad debt.Money owed 180 days past the due repayment date accounted for 2.1 percent of the total amount of debt by the end of the third quarter, down 0.4 percentage point from the second quarter, according to the statement.

BEIJING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for China's non-manufacturing sector was back to growth in December last year after declining for two months, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) said Monday.The December PMI for non-manufacturing sector rises to 56.5 percent, 3.3 percentage points higher than a month earlier, the CFLP said in a statement on its website.The figure declined month on month in October and November last year to a nine-month low of 53.2 percent in November.The non-manufacturing PMI is a package of indices that measure the non-manufacturing sector's performance.A reading above 50 percent indicates economic expansion while one below 50 percent indicates economic contraction. It was the eighth straight month the reading was above 50 percent.The monthly rise had reflected a steady growth in China's non-manufacturing sector, with new orders index 2.2 percentage points higher month on month to 52.3 percent and new export orders jumped 3.3 percentage points to 50.6 percent, said the CFLP.According to the CFLP, the New Year holiday, as well as the coming Lunar New Year holiday, or Spring Festival, which falls on early February this year, has led to a rebound in the consumer service sector, especially in the retailing and the catering businesses.The rapid growth in the information service industry has also contributed to the rise, which had largely driven up the producer service sector, of which the business activity index was up 4.3 percentage points to 59.7 percent, it said.The CFLP also pointed out that the intermediate input price index for December was down 0.7 percentage points from the November level to 65.9 percent, indicating that inflation condition has not worsened in the past month, but it suggested the government closely monitor its future trend.Noticeably, the new order index for the real estate industry remained below 50 percent by falling 2.3 percentage points to 45 percent, which was "a move toward the government's macro-control target", said the statement.
