MANHATTAN, N.Y. — Workers installed 192 new glittering Waterford crystal triangles on Times Square's New Year's Eve ball on Sunday in preparation for a pandemic-limited celebration on Thursday.The ball is a 12-foot-diameter geodesic sphere covered with more than 2,000 crystal triangles of various sizes. Some new crystals are swapped in every year. This year's addition features a new “Gift of Happiness” design represented by a sunburst of bright cuts radiating outward. The ball, blazing with more than 32,000 LED lights, will be dropped at 11:59 p.m. on New Year's Eve to ring in 2021.The Times Square celebration will be much smaller than usual because of the coronavirus pandemic. Lowe’s, in partnership with a group of NFL players, says it is contributing million in Christmas trees to needy families and facilities in “need of extra cheer” this holiday season.All told, Lowe’s will deliver 13,000 pre-lit trees to homes and organizations throughout the country. Among the facilities to receive the donated trees will be childcare centers, youth centers, first responder stations and nonprofit housing organizations.Top NFL players including Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, Adam Thielen and Andy Dalton are joining the project. Abrams is an African American leader and viewed as a rising star but some question whether she has enough national experience. Tammy Baldwin: A United States senator representing the swing state of Wisconsin, but some question whether she has had enough exposure on the national stage. Karen Bass: A member of the House of Representatives representing California, Bass is an experienced legislator and African-American leader.
