IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) — Two men were charged with assaulting two border patrol agents in separate incidents in the Imperial Beach area this week.Both incidents occurred Thursday night, according to the U.S. Attorney of Southern District of California.In the first incident, Imperial Beach Border Patrol says an agent encountered a five individuals at about 9:30 p.m., one of them identified as Frazy Jiron, a Honduran national. The agent ordered the group not to move, but Jiron stood up, according to officials.RELATED: Convicted murderer caught crossing border with migrants near San Ysidro Port of EntryWhen the agent tried to handcuff Jiron, the Honduran national appeared to say something to the others, causing them to also stand and begin to flee, according to border officials. Jiron elbowed the agent in the chest, the agent said, and a struggle ensued, causing both men to fall down a hill.Jiron was later arrested and admitted to being in the U.S. illegally.In the second incident, another border agent in Imperial Beach encountered a man at about 10:45 p.m., identified as Franklin Ariel Rochac-Garcia, border officials said. Rochac-Garcia was reportedly running toward the agent and refused the agent's requests to stop. Rochac-Garcia reportedly tried to punch the agent as he approached, but missed and the agent brought Rochac-Garcia to the ground.RELATED: Mexico's new president could change border policyRochac-Garcia got back up and began running south toward the border, officials say. He attempted to jump over the border fence but the border agent was able to detain him before he made it over.Rochac-Garcia, an El Salvadoran national, was arrested and admitted to being in the U.S. illegally, according to border officials.Both men are being charged with assault on a federal officer and illegal entry. 1840

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - 40 undocumented immigrants were arrested at two human smuggling houses in South San Diego County Monday, according to Customs and Border Protection officials.Border Patrol agents received information Monday afternoon that immigrants were being housed at the Serenaded apartments on Elder Ave. in Imperial Beach.Upon entry into a unit, agents found 22 Mexican nationals hiding inside, officials said. A second search led to the discovery of 18 more immigrants.Three dozen men between 16 and 49 years old and four women, ages 24 to 46, were taken into custody.One of the men is a previously deported felon with convictions for domestic violence, agents said.“Identifying and dismantling smuggling organizations is our top priority,” said Chief Patrol Agent Rodney S. Scott.  “These organizations cannot be allowed to operate with impunity inside of our communities.” 909

Hurricane Hunters have been flying in and out of Hurricane Laura continuously for days, getting a close-up look as the hurricane has rapidly intensified.In less than two days, Laura went from a tropical storm to a high-end Category 4. The storm is set to strike the Louisiana coast early Thursday morning.There are two Air Force Reserve groups that fly into hurricanes to send back data to the National Hurricane Center.In total, the Air Force Reserve utilizes 20 WC-130J aircraft that are equipped with palletized meteorological data-gathering instruments.According to the Hurricane Hunters, “The navigator keeps track of the aircraft's position and movement and monitors radar to avoid tornadic activity. The flight meteorologist acts as flight director and observes and records meteorological data at flight level using a computer that encodes weather data every 30 seconds. The weather reconnaissance loadmaster collects and records vertical meteorological data using a parachute-borne sensor known as a dropsonde. In a scene reminiscent to what played out in Minneapolis on Memorial Day, Oklahoma City Police released video of a May 2019 incident of a man dying while in police custody.Body worn camera video was released to the public this week.The video shows as officers attempted to place him in handcuffs, Derrick Scott told officers multiple times “I can’t breathe,” a line that George Floyd used moments before he died in Minneapolis. One of the officers responded to Scott, “I don’t care.”The video shows officers struggling to place Scott in handcuffs.Unlike in the Floyd incident, the only video available from last May’s incident was from body camera footage.The May 2019 incident began on a call of a black man carrying a gun. After police arrived, officers talked to Scott. The body cam footage then showed officers chasing a fleeing Scott.Officers caught up to him and tackled Scott. Two officers straddled Scott until a third officer arrived and told Scott to stop resisting.It took all three officers to bring Scott into custody. An officer continued to hold a knee against Scott’s leg.Scott then didn’t say anything for four minutes, which prompted officers to call for EMTs. Scott died an hour later. An official autopsy stated that Scott had a collapsed lung at the time of his death, but did not give the manner for his death.The officers were cleared of wrongdoing. 1380
