(KGTV) -- Sixth-graders frolicked in the snow in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park Thursday, thrilled to learn about science."We're trying to take what they're learning in school and making it come alive," Principal of Cuyamaca Outdoor School Greg Schuett said. The kids come for a full school week, but the classes are unlike any these students have attended before."Last time my group went on a hike we saw something with erosion! So like what happened is the rain because of one day of rain it split one part of land into two parts," a sixth-grader said excitedly.Schuett said the students go on nature hikes. DEHESA, Calif. (CNS) - An 80-year-old motorist was found dead today inside her crashed car at the bottom of an embankment alongside a dirt road near the Sycuan Casino.A hiker came upon the crumpled gold Lexus ES300 roughly a half-mile from the southern terminus of Sycuan Road in the rural Dehesa area about 8 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.The driver's name was withheld pending family notification. Her car apparently veered off an unpaved rural byway on the grounds of Sycuan Indian Reservation, careened down the adjacent hillside and struck a large oak tree."The Lexus was equipped with a lap- and shoulder-belt restraint system along with an airbag system," CHP public-affairs Officer Travis Garrow said this afternoon. "At this time, it does not appear the (motorist) was wearing her seat belt at the time of the (accident)."When the crash occurred was unclear, though a camera at a nearby guard shack captured images of the Lexus passing through the area about 2:30 p.m.Tuesday, according to Garrow. Why the woman was driving over such remote and rugged terrain also was unknown, though intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the fatality, the spokesman said. 1209

DEL MAR (CNS) - Hall of Fame Thoroughbred horse trainer Gary Jones died at his Del Mar home at the age of 76, it was announced today.Jones, whose career accomplishments included earning more than million in purses and 1,465 race victories, died Sunday following a lengthy illness. His son Marty, also a trainer, told the Thoroughbred Daily News that his father had been in hospice care and died of natural causes.The son of legendary trainer Farrell ``Wild Horse'' Jones took over his father's stable in 1974 and trained 104 stakes winners over the next 22 years.Jones won 15 race meet titles, including four at Santa Anita in Arcadia, where he set a record with 47 wins in 1976, ranks eighth all-time in Winter/Spring wins with 576 victories, and ninth all-time in stakes won with 72.Notable horses under his training include Turkoman, an Eclipse Award winner named Champion Older Male in 1986, and Best Pal, the winner of the first Pacific Classic at Del Mar in 1991, as well as the Hollywood Gold Cup and Santa Anita Handicap.Thoroughbred Daily News reported that heart problems led to Jones' retirement in 1996.He was elected to the United States Racing Hall of Fame in 2014. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein continues to oversee special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation after consulting with a career ethics adviser at the Justice Department about his ability to oversee the Russia probe, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN.For nearly a year, legal experts and journalists have questioned why Rosenstein has not stepped aside from overseeing Mueller's investigation given that he was part of the dramatic firing of FBI Director James Comey. That fact has more recently served as ammunition to attack Rosenstein's credibility by allies of President Donald Trump.But CNN has now learned that Rosenstein has consulted with the ethics adviser over the course of the investigation on whether he needs to recuse himself, and he has followed that individual's advice -- a fact which has not been previously reported and offers a more fulsome explanation for how he has continued to oversee Mueller's work. DENVER, Colo. — On Wednesday, a Boulder man released videos of his July 29 arrest, and said he's ready to take action against the Denver Police Department for "savagely" beating him. He also claims an officer sexually assaulted him with a baton.Michael Jacobs, a self-described student activist, was arrested on July 29 during a "Stop the Sweep" homeless protest at Lincoln Park, across from the Colorado State Capitol.He says he was rattling a fence at Lincoln Park to get an officer's attention and says he was taken down by officers."I was grabbed from behind, it felt like it was from my neck, no warning, no 'you're under arrest,'" Jacobs said.It's important to stress that little is known about what led up to the takedown. Video shows people shaking a fence at the park and then the takedown.In the video, you see an officer run towards Jacobs and then several officers holding him down. You can briefly see an officer use his baton against Jacobs in the recording."One of the officers took his baton, lifted it in the air and forcefully shoved it into my a**," Jacobs said.A probable cause statement released by the Denver Police Department claims Jacobs was part of a group trying to push down a gate at Lincoln Park and adds that they managed to bring it down and get inside.But in the video, Jacobs is outside of the fence.The police report states Jacobs violently resisted arrest and even grabbed an officer's pepper ball gun. It's a claim Jacobs and his attorney, Dr. Matt Greife, dispute."That could not be further from the truth," Jacobs said."To say that he attempted to disarm a police officer of their pepper gun or pepper ball gun, that's nonsense, he was on the ground way too fast," Dr. Greife said.According to Dr. Greife, it's been challenging to obtain vital evidence they should be granted to prepare for a lawsuit and a civil claim they plan to file."We should know what the police reports say. We should know what the body cams tell us," Dr. Greife said.Denver police say they launched an internal investigation and added that it would be inappropriate to comment further.Medical records provided by Jacobs' attorney to KMGH show a doctor couldn't conclusively identify sexual abuse from the incident.Jacobs is facing a felony charge of attempting to disarm a police officer.
