A sea of bright orange poppies carpets the hills along Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore. Word spread when the bloom erupted; now the area is a huge draw for visitors. "Came out here to see the beauty in nature, the poppies, they only come every few years, so you have to enjoy it,” said Lake Elsinore resident Jessica Rodriguez. She said she’s never seen so many people visit. To see the poppies, visitors must find a spot in a mile-long stretch of parked cars. Others opt to take photos from the freeway, which is illegal. "They want that perfect picture, they can get pretty ones but it’s at the expense of the habitat,” said Josh Reinig, MSHCP Reserve Manager.The parks department posted signs telling people not to step on flowers, and they created barriers to protect certain areas. "You're kind of seeing them a lot more trampled stepped on, people just sitting on them,” Reining said. Picking just one flower could mean 30 fewer flowers grow in the future. (KGTV) -- La Mesa residents will finally get the chance to talk about the protests that were followed by violence and looting in May.The La Mesa City Council is hosting a town hall for the community Thursday at 6 p.m.The town hall comes after the city picked a firm to look into how different local agencies handled the incident. City leaders say the goal is to get recommendations to help the La Mesa better respond to emergency situations.On May 30, hundreds of rioters descended on the small La Mesa Village business district setting fire to numerous vehicles and buildings, including a bank and looting business.Looters also struck a Walmart, Target, Vons, and several stores in the La Mesa Springs Shopping Center.The city wants to let community members voice their concerns and ask questions.Community members can submit questions in advance and find a link to the zoom conference HERE 916

(KGTV) - A small earthquake rattled San Diego County's mountain and desert towns Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.The 3.0 quake happened about 5:30 a.m. and was located one mile south-southeast of Lake Henshaw, USGS officials said. The epicenter is roughly 20 miles NW of Julian, and 30 miles ENE of Escondido.No damage has been reported. 387

Lee Keum-seom hasn't held her son in 68 years.The last time she saw him, Sang Chol was four years old, and together with her husband and their daughter, they were headed south, fleeing the fighting during the early days of the Korean War.In the mass of hundreds of thousands of others trying to escape, Lee and her daughter lost sight of her husband and Sang Chol.They continued south, becoming part of the flood of refugees who crossed what became the Demilitarized Zone.
