SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Chief Border Patrol Agent Douglas Harrison apologized Wednesday after a binational garden at the border was bulldozed. Harrison said on Twitter he met with Friends of Friendship Park and apologized for the “unintentional destruction of the garden.”“The original intent was to have the garden trimmed. We take full responsibility, are investigating the event, & look forward to working with FoFP on the path forward,” Harrison continued. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Crowds gathering at Veterans Park in Ocean Beach may face fines if they don't follow the county's public health orders.Tuesday morning, city crews put up orange mesh fencing around the park, but a few hours later, witnesses took pictures of two men cutting the fence down.Residents and business owners have been complaining for weeks about large groups gathering on Wednesday evenings gathered to watch the drum circle and hang out in the park.Mark Winkie is the president of the Ocean Beach Town Council. He didn't agree with shutting down the park, but he didn't condone tearing down the fence, either."Disappointing what happened here this morning, but it's important for people to know, as a town council, we really would like education to come first, to notify people about what they need to do when gathering here on such large quantities on a Wednesday," said Winkie.The public health orders banning gatherings of more than ten have been in place for months, but Winkie said it's possible not everyone is aware."Particularly for the drum circle, no city or county official has been out really interfacing with them, SDPD definitely came out, and I applaud their actions," said Winkie.Last week, police broke up the crowd, but did not issue citations.Councilmember Dr. Jennifer Campbell said it's time for enforcement."Everyday more San Diegans are dying, so we have to get tough and I'm telling you if this situation that happened last Wednesday night, happens this Wednesday night, there's gonna be a lot of clamp down, so they have got to stop it," Dr. Campbell said shouting.Violators could be fined up to ,000."By God, that is now the law and, therefore, the county sheriff should be out here arresting people who aren't wearing masks, who aren't distancing, and who are coming together," said Dr. Campbell.It's unclear if the city will put up a more permanent barrier or if anything will be in place by Wednesday evening. 1962

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Cal Fire is battling a brush fire near East San Diego County on the U.S.-Mexico border. The flames broke out after 11 a.m. near the Cottonwood Creek area off SR-94, not far from Barrett Junction. 100 acres burned in the U.S., with the fire spreading to 650 acres in total by 7:30 p.m. It is 10 percent contained.The fire has a moderate rate of spread and was burning light brush, Cal Fire confirmed to 10News. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating after a body was found floating in the ocean off the coast of San Diego Monday afternoon. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the body was discovered in the water approximately five miles off the coast of Mission Bay around noon. The body was found floating in the water with a life jacket nearby by a good Samaritan, the Coast Guard says. A second vest was also located in the water. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than .4 million over three months across San Diego County's ports of entry, according to the agency.CBP says the undeclared money bound for Mexico was seized between April and June at ports of entry including Calexico, Otay Mesa, Cross Border Xpress, San Ysidro, and Tecate, CBP says.One of the largest stops occurred in May when a vehicle was stopped in Otay Mesa and discovered money hidden in boxes with other items in the cargo area of the vehicle."These various interdictions by our vigilant officers are just a fraction of the regular attempts we see during the year," said Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations for CBP in San Diego.
