Cyberbullying among kids related to the election is a growing problem right now. And with how divisive things are, there are concerns this won't be going away after the polls close next week.“This is a very, very polarizing and almost even more in front of kids’ faces, election than any other time in history,” said Titania Jordan with Bark Technologies.Bark Technologies currently monitors more than 5 million kids online at home. Its monitoring shows from mid-August to the end of September, there was a 25% increase in bullying overall from the beginning of July. And there was a 220% increase in severe bullying.You'd expect to see this with the start of the school year, but the numbers show this is about a 50% increase from what Bark typically sees over this period.They say the feedback they've received from parents supports the increase with a direct tie-in to election-related cyberbullying.“It’s not something that she gets to judge over or bully over or make people feel bad about,” said Kathryn Noble, whose daughter was impacted by cyberbullying. “That's not acceptable at any age but especially at 13.”Noble says her 13-year-old daughter recently blocked one of her friends on social media over them supporting a different candidate than her.Bark found around 45% of what kids are sharing is memes about the two candidates. They've found this month that messages including the word “Trump” are being flagged more frequently for depression, hate speech and weapons.Messages including the word "Biden" are being flagged more frequently for cyberbullying, because they include disparaging or belittling language.“They're being bullied even because of maybe something their parents have said or something their family says,” said Matt McKee at Bark Technologies. “Hey, this is where we stand right now and because of that, kids are being brought into those situations.”As far as addressing this cyberbullying, the tech experts we talked with say asking your kids to teach you about a certain app they are using will give you more insight into what's happening earlier.Things to watch for include changes in sleep patterns or behavior. The mental strain has been non-stop and now seasonal depression is expected to add to those stresses."There is one word that I would say now, it is fatigue,” said Douglas County Health Director Adi Pour about how people are feeling regarding the pandemic. “There is no question, the public is fatigued."Mental health experts worry that seasonal depression will only add to the already prevalent pandemic-related stresses."It just multiplies it, it stacks,” said CHI Health Mental Health Therapist Tim Hron.Seasonal depression, or Seasonal Affective Disorder, has to do with changes in serotonin levels in the colder months, directly affecting your mood. It's a condition that affects about five percent of adults in the U.S. and typically lasts about 40 percent of the year."It can present itself with fatigue, depressed mood, some of those other typical symptoms of depression but just more in that seasonal time frame," said Hron.Hron also says it's important to reach out for help if your symptoms last longer than two weeks. Cited under Arizona's Stupid Motorist Law and slammed with four tickets, a Scottsdale man who drove into deep water learned a lesson Sunday night.Cooper Moore, 20, said he was close to home and he did not see how deep the water was in the roadway, so he decided to drive through the barricades in place. RELATED: How much water does it take to wash a car away?Moore said he quickly realized that was a mistake when the water reached halfway up his tires. "I just thought it was more convenient going through this and I didn't think...I didn't see how powerful the water was at the time," Moore explained. "And when I got to that point where my car is, I tried to go in reverse, but it stalled and my engine just shut off and I needed to get rescued."Moore said he escaped out the window and sat on his car while he waited for help to arrive. He said they walked him to safety but then handed him four tickets. Moore said while he understands what he did was wrong, he thinks rescue crews were a little harsh with him."I think they gave me a little too many consequences for that," Moore said. "And they said that I brought a lot of people out there and it was a Sunday night and I understand that I may have ruined some people's nights, but it's just a small mistake."Under Arizona's Stupid Motorist Law, a driver can be forced to reimburse rescue crews for their efforts to get a person to safety if they ignored barricades.
