SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The widow of a fallen firefighter is opening up about giving birth without the love of her life by her side.Cal Fire Firefighter Engineer Cory Iverson died battling the Thomas Fire in Ventura County in December.His wife, Ashley, was pregnant with their second daughter at the time. Taylor Ivy Frances Iverson was born just a few weeks ago."She looks just like this little twin, especially right after she came out it was a big relief to have her out and to see him again and feel like I was looking into his eyes again," said Ashley.It's been five months since Cory died, but Ashley said it still doesn't seem real. "People will say to me, I can't possibly imagine going through that, and my response is neither can I, cause it really doesn't feel like it's me going through all of this," said Ashley.She was surrounded by family and friends in the hospital the day Taylor was born, but it was the voicemail she played from her late husband while in the delivery room that helped her get through labor."All the doctors were crying, but it just flipped right then and there. It's the most special voice mail I have from him basically talking about how special our relationship is and how grateful he is for us," said Ashley.Ashley wants to honor Cory's memory by starting a foundation to help first responders deal with the trauma they see on the job."The things that they see and experience are things that the human brain can't just push out, it needs to be worked through," said Ashley.As heartbroken as she is, she's always thinking about the men and women who were on the fire lines with Cory the day he died."Through trust and communication, these men and women can heal," said Ashley. Even in her darkest moments, she is overwhelmed with gratitude."My hope is that people out there hold on to whatever faith that they have because through any struggle with your faith and gratitude, it will get you through." 1942

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thousands of SDG&E customers were left in the dark in Central San Diego, as an power outage hit late Wednesday.The outage affected about 5,800 customers in the Sorrento Valley, Mira Mesa, and Scripps Ranch areas just after 5 p.m., according to SDG&E's outage map. Those still without power dropped to about 1,900 customers by about 6 p.m.It's unclear what caused the outage. Crews were assessing the issue and estimated power would be restored by 8 p.m. up to 9:30 p.m. in some areas.Other outages were also reported in the Oceanside and Poway areas around the same time as well. SDG&E estimates power to be retored to those areas around 8 p.m. as well.10News is monitoring this breaking news. 728

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The White House confirmed Tuesday that it is reviewing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.It comes as the Department of Homeland Security announced changes to the program that gives protection to some undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children, guarding them against deportation.In a news release, DHS announced the following changes to the DACA program:Reject all initial requests for DACA and associated applications for Employment Authorization Documents;Reject new and pending requests for advanced parole absent exceptional circumstances; and,Limit the period of renewed deferred action granted pursuant to the DACA policy after the issuance of this memorandum to one year.Last month, the Supreme Court blocked an attempt by the Trump Administration to end DACA altogether.DACA supporters are expected to go to court to stop the changes announced Tuesday. 925

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The San Diego Padres are heading to the postseason, and while fans can’t attend games at Petco Park, the team is giving the Friar Faithful a chance to cheer them on at the ballpark while in their cars.The Padres Postseason Watch Party will take place during next week’s Wild Card round, with the drive-in event happening in Petco Park’s Lexus Premier Lot on K Street, off 14th Street.RVs and campers will not be allowed at the watch party.The games will be shown on three separate large LED video screens, and fans at the event will be able to choose from different restaurant partners -- depending on the game -- when it comes to the ballpark eats. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The public is invited to the inaugural Christmas tree lighting ceremony Saturday at the new Legacy International Center in Mission Valley.Dozens of workers made their last-minute touches Friday ahead of the center's tree lighting, which plans to pull out all the holiday stops."We'll have Christmas caroling out there, and Santa will be out there. Just social fun," Jim Penner, executive director of the center, said. Penner said Saturday's event is the first of a three-phase opening for the nearly 0-million hotel, theater, and attraction center opening next year. The center is the brain-child of San Diego-based televangelist Morris Cerullo, who made his fortune as a popular televangelist in the 1980s and 1990s."He [Cerullo] wanted people around the world to be able to experience the people that he got to know through his 70 years of travel to 95 nations in the world," Penner said. Penner told 10News the center was initially supposed to be a small ministry training center and possibly a dormitory. But with the availability of the 18-acre former Mission Valley Resort, they went big. The hotel will have 126 rooms, including 12 suites. The fine-dining restaurant is a steakhouse, which is next to the pool and spa. The attraction building has a domed, 4D theater designed by former Disney Imagineers. Audiences will get to feel like they're flying over Jerusalem in a ride created by the same designers who made Soarin' Over California at Disney California Adventure Park.Another attraction will be an award-winning, computerized dome, where people can digitally tour the world."As we get to know each other, the world gets smaller," Penner said. Before the council approved the blueprints in 2017, critics of the Legacy International Center feared that traffic would be a nightmare. But Penner said that the improvements they made on the roads turned out to have unexpected benefits. "We widened Hotel Circle the entire length of our property. We have 1000 feet of frontage there. And a nice benefit of that is when we had this last big rain last week, in the past, Hotel Circle would flood like crazy in front of the hook ramps here, and no flooding at all!"The inaugural Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
