Disney Parks announced Thursday that one of its most beloved rides will be getting a makeover.According to a press release, "Splash Mountain" at both Disney World and Disneyland will be re-themed after Disney's 2009 name film "Princess and the Frog" — the first Disney movie to feature a Black princess character."Splash Mountain" opened at Disneyland in 1989 and at Disney World in 1992. Since its opening, the ride has been themed after the 1946 film "Song of the South" — a movie set in the Antebellum South that, since its release, has been criticized for its handling of race.Earlier this month, a viral petition called on Disney to re-brand the ride at all of its parks amid nationwide protests against systemic racism. However, in its press release, Disney says that it has been working on re-imagining Splash Mountain since last year."(The Princess and the Frog is) a great story with a strong lead character, set against the backdrop of New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou," the company said in a blog post. "In 1966, Walt (Disney) himself opened New Orleans Square when it became the first new "land" added to Disneyland park, so it feels natural to link the story and the incredible music of "The Princess and the Frog" to our parks."Disney says a timeline on the project will be available "soon."A version of Splash Mountain also exists at Tokyo Disneyland in Japan. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a car slammed into an El Cajon power pole Tuesday afternoon, leaving some residents without power.The crash happened on Madison Avenue and 3rd Street near Madison Avenue Elementary School."It was just kind of like a loud boom," said Julia Jorgensen, who heard the crash.  "The car was smoking at the front for a little bit, so I was really scared that it was going to blow up."According to police in El Cajon, the crash caused extensive damage.  In photos from the scene, the power pole appears to be split in half. SDG&E turned off power approximately 120 residents in the area as a precaution.  Power was restored for most residents by 4:30 p.m.The crash also closed Madison Avenue between 3rd Street and Macon Street, creating traffic as parents picked up their children from one of several schools in the area.Police say the incident is being investigated as a DUI crash. A witness described the driver as stumbling out of the vehicle shortly after the crash."I ran up to him.  I said, 'Who was in the car, like who's in there?' and he was really really out of it.  His eyes were rolling in the back of his head," Jorgensen said. "He was kind of falling everywhere.  He was really really sweaty.At one point, she says he even laid down in the grass, curled up like a ball.Both the driver and passenger were responsive but taken to the hospital with serious injuries. SDGE expects to reopen the street by 10 p.m. 1540

(KGTV) - An upset burglary victim says she didn't get emotional when she saw the surveillance video, until she heard what the intruders did.Just off Applewood Drive around 4 p.m. Sunday, Michele returned home from grocery shopping with her 7-year-old daughter."I saw the bedroom was in complete disarray, grabbed my daughter and said, 'Let's get out of the house right now,'" said Michele.Ring doorbell video shows what happened: three men cased the home, then approached and hopped over her fence. Moments later, the three bag-toting men ripped off the screen of a back window and climbed in.The sound of Michele's dog, a 10-year-old Miniature Schnauzer named Trixie, is heard barking and then there is another noise: a pained whimpering lasting more than five seconds."Something was done to her to cause her pain.  It brought me to more tears than knowing we'd been violated," said Michele.About half an hour later, two of the men are seen leaving through the window, swatting at and toppling a camera on the way out.They would make off with electronics, a handgun and dozens of pieces of jewelry, including some priceless family heirlooms. Also gone was Michele's diamond and platinum wedding ring set."There was sentimental value for sure," said Michele.But Michele says she's thankful Trixie wasn't hurt badly. She also says missing the burglars by minutes was a literal blessing because she had stopped at church for a few minutes before coming home. "Really blessed to have God's protection," said Michele.Michele posted the videos on the Neighbors by Ring app, in hopes of tracking down a trio of brazen burglars."They clearly knew what they were doing.
