School officials say a student has been shot to death at a Texas high school, and a suspect remains at large. Grenita Latham, interim superintendent of the Houston Independent School District, confirmed the shooting victim at Bellaire High School had died. Now Nike is wading into the subscription market for the first time.Nike announced Monday that it is debuting Nike Adventure Club, a sneaker subscription for kids ages two through 10. Nike will offer parents three options for their kids: four pairs of sneakers a year for a month, six pairs for a month or 12 pairs for a month. Parents and kids will be able to choose from a selection of around 100 sneakers."This is probably one of the best examples of a major brand taking the attributes of a [direct-to-consumer] digital brand" and linking it to its broader strategy, said Bryan Gildenberg, chief knowledge officer at Kantar Consulting.Nike is targeting time-strapped parents in the suburbs and rural areas who don't live near a shoe store with the program. The company says that dragging young kids to a store every few months to try on sneakers that they will quickly outgrow can frustrate parents. Shopping for kids' shoes online also brings sizing issues and return hassles, the company says."We've discovered a huge pain point for parents around shopping for kids' shoes," Dave Cobban, general manager of Nike Adventure Club, told CNN Business. "This was a great opportunity to experiment with different solutions."Nike started piloting a sneaker club for kids two years ago. It grew to 10,000 members, and Cobban said Nike believes it's ready to unveil the service more broadly.Nike Adventure Club is a key initiative for the company. Forty staffers are working on the concept. The service gives Nike a way to draw parents who are outside of its traditional big-city customer base and build a connection with young kids. Other online styling services and subscription companies such as Stitch Fix, Kidbox and Rockets of Awesome are also fighting to win parents and children in the billion US children's clothing and footwear market.Perhaps more importantly for Nike, its kids' sneaker club allows the company to test out the subscription market and potentially apply it to its adult shoppers.Cobban noted that avid runners need to replace their shoes frequently and he mentioned the possibility of a marathon membership program."We're starting to think about what other athletes have problems that could be very easily solved by a subscription," he said. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer put forth a number of amendments to rules set forth by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, setting the table for President Donald Trump's removal trial over the next few weeks. All 11 amendments put forth so far on Tuesday have been tabled -- effectively turning them down -- by a party-line vote in all but one vote. Fifty-three Republicans voted to table the amendments, while 47 Democrats voted against tabling in 10 of the 11 votes. Students from high schools around the country have been working to compete in a national engineering challenge, and it’s all focused around helping people with disabilities. STEM students from 50 high schools across America entered the SourceAmerica Design Challenge, where participants create innovative technology to help people with disabilities in the workplace. That's A Wrap deli in North Potomac, Maryland is known for employing people with disabilities. That's why these STEM students from Poolsville High School picked this place for their school project. The group is one of the five finalist teams for the national engineering competition. Learning all the back-end technology on their own, the students invented an iPad application called "Recipe Easy," which aims to help people with disabilities work more efficiently. The students took all of the recipes from That’s A Wrap and shot videos on how to make the food, before uploading them to the app. Step by step, each recipe is show in an animation and text. It’s also hands-free. "When you hold up a spatula, the camera will detect it and it will move to the next step of a recipe, so Steven has that as a guide for him," says junior Anjali Murthy on the help it provides one of the workers at the deli, Steven.Charissa Garcia with SourceAmerica says the students from the five finalist schools will present their devices on stage for a panel of judges. "They come together. They build a project to really focus on independence, empowerment, increased wages and increased employment opportunities for people with disabilities," Garcia explains of the program.
