An Arizona resident captured a dangerous encounter between a bobcat and rattlesnake earlier this week. The video taken by Laura Lucky in Scottsdale shows the pair facing off along a sidewalk. The bobcat paws and bites at the snake as it tries to slither away and, at times, strike back. But they never really understood how the species — and others like it — are able to glide through the air.Researchers at Virginia Tech conducted controlled tests with the snakes in an indoor environment. They discovered that the undulating motion the snakes exhibit while gliding stabilizes them, which allows them to fly further. Previously, researchers thought the snakes' movements in the air were the same movement they used when slithering on the ground.Now, researchers say they want to learn how the snakes generate lift and how they can turn in the air.Luckily, while the paradise snake is poisonous, its venom is weak compared to other species. American Airlines is taking its long-grounded Boeing 737 Max jets out of storage, updating key flight-control software, and flying the planes in preparation for the first flights with paying passengers later this month.The airline invited press reporters and photographers on board one of the planes Wednesday to demonstrate its confidence in the plane’s safety.All Max jets worldwide were grounded in March 2019 after the second of two crashes that together killed 346 people. Last month, the Federal Aviation Administration approved changes — mainly in flight-control software — that will allow airlines to resume flying the plane.American flew journalists from Dallas to the airline’s maintenance center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where crews explained how they are bringing the planes out of storage and making FAA-required changes.American is likely to be the first carrier to put passengers on Max jets, beginning Dec. 29 with once-a-day round trips between New York and Miami. In the meantime, the airline plans flights with employees on board.Some relatives of people who died in the crashes — and who still believe the plane is unsafe — expressed outrage at both Boeing and American over what they termed a publicity stunt.Zipporah Kuria, a British citizen whose father died in the second Max crash, said Boeing and the FAA should instead turn over documents on changes made to fix the plane and how they were tested. The company has withheld the documents, saying they cover trade secrets.“I feel like Boeing is using the press to leverage public trust instead of actually genuinely earning public trust,” she said. “I’m really disgusted by the whole thing and the fact that American Airlines would pay for that. An Idaho woman reported to the Nampa Police Department Tuesday night that her 6-year-old son had been given a small bag of marijuana while out trick-or-treating.She reported that she had been going through his candy bag and found the small plastic baggie that appeared to contain marijuana. She brought the baggie to the Nampa Police Department and turned it over to officers.   Nampa Police field tested the substance found in the candy bag and it indeed tested “presumptively positive” for marijuana, said Nampa Police Sgt. Tim Riha.“Officers obtained the route that (the child) took while out trick-or-treating. (The child) had been to several houses in that area, but it is unknown which house provided the marijuana to the trick-or-treater,” Riha explained.  The baggie that contained the marijuana will be sent to the lab for fingerprint testing, he added.The incident is still under investigation.  The Nampa Police Department reminds parents to inspect all candy and items obtained by their kids while out on Halloween.“If any candy looks like it has been tampered with or opened, it is best just to throw the item away. Be wary of allowing children to consume any homemade treats and fully inspect all other items,” Riha advised. 1276
