JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri — As soon as the sirens sounded, Ed Stroesser and his family took shelter in their basement. Together they listened to the radio, waiting for the storm to pass. Across the city, Gerry Mack and his coworkers huddled, waiting anxiously. "We kind of tracked the path of the tornado. You [could] hear the buzzing and the tornado over us. It was a very eerie feeling," Mack said. The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-3 tornado, with winds up to 160 miles per hour, touched down in Jefferson City, Missouri, on Wednesday. The twister ripped roofs off of homes, overturned semi-trucks, and took out walls of businesses and houses. Stroesser's business was one of the places impacted. The wind knocking down the east side of the building, leaving the inside of his office exposed. "Oh it's horrible. We've been a business here for 40 years," he said. Before touching ground in Missouri's capitol, the tornado hit smaller towns, including Eldon, Missouri. Brenda Hooker sought shelter in her bathroom as the tornado bounced off of her home. It’s Saturday night service at Northview Church in Carmel, Indiana. As parishioners pack the pews, they start singing about the power of giving. Preaching from the pulpit, senior pastor Steve Poe focuses the night’s sermon on how small donations can have a big impacts.This Indiana-based church is truly helping their neighbors in need! Members of this congregation raised ,000 in donations and used that money to help pay off more than .6 million of medical debt for Indiana citizens.“That will have an impact on 2,500 people or more,” says Poe.With Poe's church buying 30 percent of all medical debt in seven different zip codes across greater Indiana, the pastor says this is financial rehabilitation through religion. In a few weeks, the families whose debts will be covered will receive letters. “What that does then, it will notify their creditors that their debt has been cleared, which gives them the opportunity to start again without this damaging debt," Poe says. "Without this debt hanging over their heads."Northview Church worked with the organization RIP Medical Debt to purchase debt at pennies on the dollar. Founder Craig Antico explains how it works, and why they don’t know the names of the people that they’ve helped. “RIP Medical Debt abolishes medical debt for the poor and those in hardship,” Antico says. “The way that we do it is we go and buy medical debt from either hospitals, doctors, or even the collector investors to buy the debt to make them nonprofit.”A study in the American Journal of Public Health found that medical debt contributes to two-thirds of bankruptcy filings. So, debt relief like this can be life changing. “I could not come up with any words; I was so caught off guard,” says Lisa Sole, who is a recipient of a Northview Church donation. Sole used ,500 dollars to cover medical bills and other debt.“When you are granted the gift of debt being taken away from you, the amount of stress that it relieves off of your body is so healing,” she says.With that kind of healing, Sole was inspired to pass it on and pay it forward, saying it’s truly better to give than receive. “It’s exciting to see the next person’s acceptance and how they’re excited compared to us and the feeling you get,” she says. 2266

It started out as a limp.At the time, father Shawn Cress thought daughter Chloe, then 12 years old, just needed some physical therapy. That was June 2018.But the limp turned into a fever, which led to lab tests at the doctor's office that "didn't look good," Shawn recalls. And by then, Chloe was having back pain.All this for the Kingsport, Tennessee family turned into a referral to Niswonger Children's Hospital in Johnson City, about 34 miles away, where doctors gave Chloe a CT scan. INDIANAPOLIS — A baby who was left unclaimed at an Indiana hospital will receive a graveside service Friday.The baby named Steven Joseph will be honored at 1 p.m. Friday inside the Mt. Vernon Chapel at Washington Park East Cemetery. He Knows Your Name Ministry, which says it gives children dignity and honor in death by celebrating their life, claimed Steven Joseph after he was left at a hospital. The organization's founder, Linda Znachko, will officiate the service.“My goal is that no baby be left unclaimed in death,” Znachko told RTV6 in 2017.Znachko works with hospitals across Indianapolis where she gives each baby a name and a gown before the service.The public is invited to attend the service. 718

JACKSON, MO. — A rescued puppy is attracting a lot of attention because of his cute resemblance to a unicorn.The nearly 10-week-old puppy, named Narwhal, has a tail-like appendage growing from his forehead.Narwhal was rescued over the weekend and sent to Mac's Mission in Jackson, which specializes in fostering animals with special needs.Mac's Mission founder Rochelle Steffen says Narwhal doesn't notice the extra tail and is otherwise a happy, healthy puppy.Although it looks like a tail, Narwhal cannot wag it. Steffen says the rescue group has been flooded with requests from people wanting to adopt Narwhal since his picture hit social media.But he'll remain at Mac's Mission so his caretakers can be sure the tail doesn't grow out of proportion to his face and cause him problems. 799
