TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — An upcoming rule change at the U.S. Department of Justice means federal inmate executions, which are currently carried out by lethal injection could happen by other means, such as a firing squad or electrocution.Currently, all federal executions are done via lethal injection unless a court specifically orders otherwise. The rule change gives the federal government greater flexibility to execute people by other means.The change states that federal executions are to be carried out by lethal injection “or by any other manner prescribed by the law of the State in which the sentence was imposed or which has been designated by a court.”According to the Death Penalty Information Center, all states that allow the death penalty authorize a lethal injection method. Nine states allow electrocution, seven allow lethal gas and three allow a firing squad. Most states that allow methods other than lethal injection do so only under the provision that the injection is found to be unconstitutional, unavailable or impractical.The DOJ rule change goes into effect on Dec. 24, before three more federal inmates are scheduled to be executed. Inmates are scheduled to be executed on Jan. 12, Jan. 14 and Jan. 15.If executions by other means will happen, it’s unlikely they will happen at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Terre Haute, where federal executions typically take place. The DOJ notice states that the Terre Haute complex is equipped for carrying out executions only by lethal injection. TAMPA, Fla. -- As parents across the country grow more concerned every morning when they send their kids to school, more and more are turning to bulletproof backpacks.“After Sandy Hook, people couldn’t wrap their minds around a bulletproof backpack but now they think it’s something that they need," said Yasir Sheikh, the president of Guard Dog Security.The Sandy Hook shooting inspired Sheikh to create a backpack out of bulletproof materials. It doesn’t seem like much. The backpack has just a thin layer of kevlar, but it is certified to withstand handgun rounds.“Ideally, we think with the way things are going this should become mandatory, common for all students," said Skeikh. "It’s a sad reality, it’s become a new normal."Others feel the same. Just three days after the deadly school shooting in South Florida his company saw a 150 percent increase in the number of bags they shipped.But do they actually work?Ryan Hart is a certified firearm instructor for defense training company Ground Ready International Training, or G.R.I.T Ready. He also teaches active shooter survival courses.Hart put a barrel with sand behind the backpack to simulate a body and took aim with his Glock 19.“The rounds definitely penetrated the front of the bag here," said Hart inspecting the shot-up bag, "But if we flip it over there’s no penetration past the armor itself."Next up: the AR-15.In the last decade, this style of gun has been used in six of the 10 deadliest mass shootings throughout the country, including the Parkland school shooting.“It went right through the soft armor," Hart said after spraying the backpack with bullets from the AR-15.It's what Hart expected, as the Guard Dog Security backpack is not certified to withstand assault-style weapons. To stop bullets from a similar weapon, the backpack would need to be equipped with steel plates like those installed in military vests. However, that would make the backpack fairly heavy to carry.“I would recommend (the backpack), yes," Hart said. "While it did not stop a direct shot from an assault rifle it can still stop bullet fragments, ricochets, glass flying through the air.”Then we posed this question to Skeikh: "What do you think it says about our society that we are resorting to items like this?"The backpacks cost between 0-200. Fifty percent of the proceeds from sales of the backpacks right now will go to the victim's families of the Parkland shooting.Guard Dog Security is also looking into possibly making backpack, that would have the ability to stop assault-style weapons. 2664

Stephanie Clifford, the porn star known as Stormy Daniels, discussed her alleged affair with Donald Trump during a May 2007 radio appearance, a well-known Florida radio personality told his listeners Friday.Bubba the Love Sponge Clem, known as Todd Clem before he legally changed his name in 1999, played portions of the interview on his radio show Friday and Monday, in which Daniels was asked to write down the names of famous men she had slept with. Clem says the first name on that list was Donald Trump. Although neither Daniels nor the host says Trump's name in the 2007 audio, she can be heard describing key details that match the description of her alleged affair with Trump.Clem said on his radio program that Daniels was talking about Trump, and later verified the same information to CNN. CNN independently corroborated the story with another person who was in Clem's studio that day, who would speak only on the condition of anonymity. That person also said Donald Trump's name was the first on Daniels' list.This would be the earliest known instance of Daniels publicly discussing the alleged affair.CNN obtained a full recording of Daniels' May 16, 2007, appearance, which matches the clips Clem played on air Friday.Michael Avenatti, a lawyer for Daniels, declined to comment and said Daniels would not be commenting.A spokesperson for the White House referred all questions to the President's outside lawyers. Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, did not return a request for comment. At the prodding of the radio hosts she says it was in Lake Tahoe, which is where Daniels first encountered Trump at a celebrity golf tournament in 2006.She said she found it "horribly embarrassing" that this person was the best in bed of the three people on her list and added that the person contacted her "twice a month."She later added that there was no money exchanged."There was no exchange of money," said Clifford.
