A Philippine Airlines jet with flames spurting from one engine has returned safely to Los Angeles International Airport shortly after takeoff.Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration says Flight 113, a Boeing 777 bound for Manila, reported a problem with the right engine after takeoff Thursday morning. It turned around and landed at about noon.Passengers and people on the ground videotaped blasts of flame coming from the right engine.Passenger Walter Baumann tells KABC-TV he heard a series of booms and saw "balls of fire."LAX spokesman Heath Montgomery says there was no flame showing from the plane when it landed but firefighters were on hand as a precaution. The airline says all 342 passengers and 18 crewmembers are safe. 752

Actor Cuba Gooding Jr.'s sex abuse trial is set to begin Tuesday with jury selection in New York City.Gooding is charged with forcible touching, a misdemeanor, and sex abuse in the third degree related to an alleged groping incident in June.A 29-year-old woman filed a police report claiming Gooding grabbed her breast at Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge in Manhattan.Gooding has denied the claim. The actor voluntarily surrendered to New York police for questioning in June and was released on his own recognizance. The woman in the alleged incident told police she was with friends when she was confronted by a male patron whom she described as Gooding, a law enforcement source told CNN."The male allegedly groped her breasts," the source said. "The victim later told cops she protested at the unwanted touching and they argued about the encounter."The woman left the bar and called 911 to report the alleged incident, the law enforcement source said, and NYPD Manhattan Special Victims Squad investigated.Gooding's attorney has said video footage taken at the bar that night will clear his client."There is not a scintilla of criminal culpability that can be attributed to Mr. Cuba Gooding Jr. after I have extensively, with my staff, reviewed the video of almost two hours which reflects the entire event," Mark Heller told reporters in June."I am totally confident that when a jury of Cuba Gooding Jr.'s peers assess all of the exculpatory evidence in this case, that he will be totally exonerated," Heller added last month. 1543

A phone bill for more than 0,000. That’s what Dr. Rosa Galvan-Silva’s dental office received from AT&T for hundreds of international calls she said she never made.In 40-plus years of dentistry, about 30 at her office in South Holland, Illinois, Galvan-Silva still hasn’t seen it all.“Something is really wrong,” she said about receiving an ,224.32 bill from AT&T, the first of two monstrous phone bills. The bill said her office made more than 100 calls – some as long as two hours – to the United Kingdom in late July and early August.“Oh my goodness, somebody’s talking a lot to the UK, but it’s not us,” she said. “They’re having good conversations there.”Galvan-Silva said she called AT&T and the company came out to investigate, but couldn’t figure out the problem. She said the calls are still tying up her phone lines–with problems happening as recently as last week.“We’re hurting. You know, we’re losing business,” she said. The bill showed many of the calls happen hours before her office opens, but not all of them.“When we come in the office, all the lines are busy. We cannot receive any phone calls. We cannot make any phone calls,” she said. “My staff are all here, and I’m with them. So it’s no way somebody’s gonna be making those phone calls here without me knowing.”Instead of ,000, she paid her typical bill of about 0. She did the same thing after the next bill came, totaling 3,576.05.That bill showed three phone lines tied up at the same time on the morning of Aug. 19. Those calls cost hundreds of dollars each.It appears Dr. Galvan-Silva’s phone system was accessed by fraudsters who made the unauthorized calls. She got a letter from AT&T’s fraud resolution group on Oct. 22, offering a settlement agreement, asking her to pay the company just 1 plus fees and taxes. The letter didn’t say why she would pay that amount, and she said she shouldn’t owe a penny. After AT&T was contacted, the company agreed to wipe away the bogus international charges. But Dr. Galvan-Silva says no one has told her whether the issue is fixed.“It is frustrating, because we are trying to do whatever we can on our part. Our equipment has been checked, we made all the phone calls that we have to make, and still we don’t have any resolution,” Galvan-Silva said. 2313

Although scientists study space every day, what’s been difficult learning more about "deep space." But there's one company helping NASA and the U.S. Air Force go where no satellite has gone before."Deep space" is well outside the Earth's atmosphere, lying beyond the Earth-moon solar system. It's also known as "interstellar space." Deep space is a mystery to a lot of scientists. NASA's Voyager spacecraft that was launched in 2011 reached the edge of our solar system. Many scientists are wanting to make their way past Jupiter to learn even more, but there are limitations in the space engine technology today. A company called Roccor, based in Longmont, Colorado, is doing their best to change that.“We are just getting in a contract with NASA to do solar sailing where we are going to leave earths orbital realm and go much farther away,” said Bruce Davis, who works for Roccor.Davis and his team are working on a project called the "solar cruiser."They created what’s called a "solar sail." It essentially gets attached to a spacecraft and acts as a propeller, ultimately upping its performance by pushing it farther into deep space.“We are capturing whatever is coming off the sun — that’s radiation, that’s photons — we call it a collective pressure," Davis said. "That’s what we are trying to grab to give ourselves propulsion.”When the sail opens up, it’s as big as an office building. Right now, they are only in creation mode, but they hope to have it done soon. 1490
