SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In-person voting kicked off in San Diego County on Saturday, welcoming voters to the polls early through Election Day.The polling locations will be open through Monday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and reopen on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. There are 235 super poll locations in San Diego County for in-person voting.Margie Singley is one resident who chose to vote in person on the first day. She said it was fast and easy.“I thought maybe it might be crowded so if it was busy today I might come tomorrow or Monday to avoid the crowds,” said Singley.She said that she felt an added level of security by voting in person and did not have any concerns about coronavirus because necessary steps were taken inside the polling place. “Not at all, so no fear. Come on in!” she said.Liza and Joe Kennedy turned in their filled-out ballots to a drop off location on the same day. They said it was their first time filling out their ballots from home, and they appreciated being able to take their time in the comfort of their own home.“It’s a safety reason too, you’re not sharing pens, you’re not in the same little fold up booth. You can do it in the security of your own home,” the couple said.Mary Criscenti and Allyson Brenner are the poll workers who collected the Kennedy’s ballots. The duo cheered on voters as they dropped off their ballots, saying everyone who stopped by had high energy all morning.“Everyone is happy. Everyone is filled with hope,” they said.All mailed ballots have to be postmarked by Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls close for in-person voting at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.As of Sunday, more than 28,100 voters had already cast their votes in early voting at polling locations. Another 10,091 voters had already voted at the Registrar of Voters since Oct. 5.As of Friday evening, more than one million of the registered 1.9 million San Diego County voters had already cast their ballots. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Just ahead of this holiday week, San Diego's Cross Border Xpress (CBX) unveiled new biometric facial comparison technology. The CEO of the sky bridge that connects travelers directly to the Tijuana International Airport told ABC 10News that it will further secure and streamline travel into the United States.The U.S.-Mexico border is still closed to non-essential travel because of COVID-19. CBX CEO Jorge Goytortua said CBX is still not encouraging people to travel right now but if they do, they can take advantage of this technology.“Within seconds, the technology will recognize the passenger in a [Customs and Border Protection (CBP)] database,” said Goytortua. He told ABC 10News that the comparison process happens only at a time and place where travelers are already required by law to verify their identity by presenting travel documents. Goytortua says that when a traveler arrives at the CBP processing area, he or she will have a photo taken at the primary inspection point. A CBP officer will do a review by retrieving the traveler's passport or visa photo from government holdings. The new photo will be compared to the previously collected photo.“It's going to be a hands-free process. It's going to be a much faster process,” he told ABC 10News.He added that CBX does not have access to the photos. Only CBP officers can see them. If travelers are still concerned about privacy, he said it's not mandatory to use the technology. “You can ask the officer if you don’t want to be processed like that then you will be processed the traditional way with your document read it on the scan. A CBP officer [will] research on their system and make sure that the person that is presenting the document is the one there in front of the officer,” he stated. 1790

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Many restaurants around San Diego are making preparations to reopen Thursday nearly 24 hours after a judge ruled the state of California, and San Diego County, can’t enforce a stay-at-home order regarding restaurants and strip clubs.San Diego Superior Court Judge Joel R. Wohlfeil on Wednesday ruled strip clubs and "San Diego County businesses with restaurant service” cannot get a cease-and-desist order. At a Thursday hearing, the judge reinforced that his ruling encompasses all restaurants, not just strip clubs. The ruling had local restaurant owners such as Rudford’s owner Jeff Kasha clamoring to open their doors again."As soon as we’re asked to close in five minutes, we’ll open in five minutes,” Kasha told ABC 10News.Kasha said his eatery on El Cajon Boulevard in North Park went from 45 to 17 employees due to the constantly changing rules. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds welcomed veterans home Sunday from their honor flight to the nation's capital where they visited war memorials, Arlington National Cemetery and other landmarks.Sixty-four veterans from WWII and the Korean War flew out Friday. The Honor Flights are free for veterans. Each trip costs 0,000 and relies on donations.Joining the veterans are escorts who will spend the weekend supporting the veterans, guiding them and making sure everything goes smoothly.WATCH: Honor Flight San Diego celebrates life of WWII veteran who died on tripThe veterans include Purple Heart recipients, a former German Prisoner of War, a veteran who served on D-day, according to the non-profit.
