BEIJING, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Sunday that China-Japan ties are at a crucial stage, urging the two countries to enhance mutual trust and step up dialogue and cooperation in all spheres."In the first decade of this century, China and Japan have taken an important step towards the goal of a strategic and mutually beneficial relationship after undergoing twists and turns," said Wen in his congratulatory letter to a meeting on China-Japan friendship.The first meeting of the fifth 21st Century Committee for China-Japan Friendship, an advisory body for the two governments, opened in Beijing on Sunday to discuss various dimensions of China-Japan relations and provide policy suggestions to the two governments.The committee, with Tang Jiaxuan, a former state councilor, and Taizo Nishimuro, Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) president, as chairs of the two sides, is holding a three-day meeting."At the crucial stage of bilateral relations, I hope the members from both sides will work closely and come up with valuable suggestions to contribute to the long-term friendship and common prosperity," Wen said.The relations between China and Japan, two important neighboring countries in Asia, have seen stable development since Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama took office last September.Wen said the cooperation between China and Japan will "not only benefit both countries and Asia at large, but also exert positive and profound impact on world political and economic structure" in the face of complex international situation and many grave challenges.Hatoyama in his congratulatory letter also urged the two countries to beef up understanding and cooperation to build comprehensively their strategic and reciprocal relations.In his keynote speech at the meeting, Tang Jiaxuan made four proposals on advancing bilateral ties.Tang proposed that the two countries continue to foster strategic mutual trust, work on the economic relations by highlighting cooperation in environmental protection, low-carbon economy and high-tech, boost cultural exchanges and enhance coordination in international and regional affairs.He said China-Japan relations still face some problems and challenges that can't be neglected, noting that their political mutual-trust needs to be promoted, their national feelings towards each other need to be improved and some sensitive issues need to be properly handled.Taizo Nishimuro also made proposals including enhancing political mutual trust, promoting trade liberalization, encouraging cultural exchanges and promoting Asian regional cooperation and world peace.

BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- China and Switzerland held their first study meeting on the feasibility of a Free Trade Area (FTA) in Beijing on Thursday, China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said in a statement on its website.The meeting will continue until Friday, the department of international trade and economic affairs of the MOC told Xinhua.According to MOC statistics, bilateral trade between China and Switzerland topped 11.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2008.Although the two-way trade volume dropped slightly on account of the global economic downturn in 2009, the decline rate was small.Official figures also show that Switzerland is China's ninth largest European trade partner, while China is Switzerland's fourth largest global trade partner.

BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- A 40-member Chinese medical care and epidemic prevention team left here for Haiti on Sunday afternoon on a chartered flight, which also carried 20 tonnes of medical supplies, said the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).The MOC said earlier in the day that China had decided to provide medical supplies worth 18 million yuan (2.64 million U.S. dollars) in additional aid to quake-ravaged Haiti.The 20-tonne medical supplies included medicines, hygiene equipment, medical devices and camping equipment, said the ministry in a statement.Also onboard the plane would be four Chinese peace-keeping police officers, replacing the four who were killed in the earthquake. BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's yuan-denominated individual home mortgage lending rose 1.4 trillion yuan (204.98 billion U.S. dollars) in 2009, up 47.9 percent from the previous year, said a report issued by the People's Bank of China, the central bank, on Wednesday.The growth rate was 37.4 percentage points higher than the previous year, said the report on China's investment flow in 2009.Meanwhile, the yuan-denominated property development lending gained 576.4 billion yuan in 2009, up 30.7 percent year on year, and the growth rate was 20.4 percentage points more than the previous year, the report said.The total mid-term and long-term loans in foreign and domestic currency expanded 7.1 trillion yuan in 2009, up 43.5 percent from the previous year, and the growth rate was 23.4 percentage points more than the previous year.The short-term loans in foreign and domestic currency expanded 2.3 trillion yuan, up 758.5 billion yuan from the same period last year.Industrial mid-term and long-term loans in foreign and domestic currency added 1 trillion yuan among China's major financial institutions, up 26 percent from the previous year.Infrastructure mid-term and long-term loans in foreign and domestic currency expanded 2.5 trillion yuan, up 43 percent from the same period last year, according to the report.The central bank said on Jan. 15 that China's new yuan-denominated lending in 2009 hit a record 9.59 trillion yuan (1.4 trillion U.S. dollars), almost double that of the previous year.
