BEIJING, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao left Beijing for Canada Wednesday afternoon to pay a state visit to the country and attend the fourth Group of 20 (G20) summit scheduled for June 26-27 in Toronto.Hu is invited by Canadian Governor-General Michaelle Jean and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.At this summit, G20 leaders will discuss ways to consolidate the recovery of the world economy and the reform of the international financial system in the aftermath of the global financial crisis.

BEIJING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Some 87 percent of Chinese who studied abroad in 2009 received financial support from their parents, China.com.cn, a government-run website, reported Sunday quoting a survey by education research company MyCOS.The survey divided its interviewees into two categories: undergraduate students who graduated from China's top 211 universities in 2009 and those who did not.According to the survey, 1.64 percent of undergraduate students graduating from China's top 211 universities in 2009 went abroad for study, 0.61 percentage points higher year on year.Some 0.69 percent of undergraduate students from the other category also pursued overseas studies.According to the survey, the majority of the students who studied abroad took economics and business management as their major.The survey also showed 9 percent of those studying abroad received scholarships from the foreign institutions while 3 percent supported themselves through part-time jobs. One percent were funded by the Chinese government.Chinese universities and colleges graduated 6.1 million students in 2009, according to statistics from the Ministry of Education.

BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Monday urged greater efforts to make the training of officials more pertinent to and effective in raising their skills at governing.Push forward the reform of the training of officials unswervingly so that the training could better serve the scientific development of the country, said Li Yuanchao, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee at a conference on the reform in Beijing on Monday.He added that the training must be both relevant and complementary to officials' jobs and called for the optimization of the systems that educate officials on Party theories, governance and Party spirit.He stressed the need to create a diverse official training system with more involvement from higher-learning institutions and research institutes besides the current main training channel of Party schools and administration schools.He also called for better training of officials at grassroots levels.The general office of the CPC Central Committee issued the text of the reform outlines for the period of 2010 to 2020 on Tuesday. BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's flood control authority Saturday urged more efforts to battle flooding in areas along the Yalu River in northeast China's Liaoning Province, to ensure the safety of local residents.The Office of National State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has required relevant departments to focus on the prevention of landslides.The office dispatched a work team to Liaoning Saturday to assist flood-control efforts.As of 7 a.m. Saturday, three people were missing and about 51,000 people had been evacuated, after the swollen Yalu River flooded parts of Dandong City in Liaoning.
