The Chinese president arrived in New York on Friday evening for a series of summits and meetings marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. Earlier in his U.S. trip, he paid his first state visit to the United States.
Xi's visit will also create an opportunity to upgrade the two countries' cultural and people-to-people exchanges, marking a highlight of the first China-Britain Cultural Exchange Year this year.
China joining the newly-established UN Peacekeeping Capability Readiness System and setting up a permanent peacekeeping police squad and a peacekeeping standby force of 8,000 troops;
"China attaches great importance to growing relations with the United Kingdom," the president said in a written statement upon arrival.
"China noticed the initiatives pushed forward by the parties involved. We are open to all the initiatives as long as they are conducive to a political settlement on the Syrian crisis," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei said on Wednesday.
