But for those standing their ground, including actress Lori Loughlin and more than a dozen others, prosecutors issued additional charges against them. Those charges include fraud and money laundering, which can bring up to 20 years in prison. Justin Paperny, who is dubbed as “prison coach” for his work in helping people prepare for prison life, was hired by several people involved in the college admission scandal to help them get ready to spend time behind bars. “Well they never imagined in a million years they'd be caught up in a federal indictment,” Paperny says of his clients. Paperny’s advice to those involved: if you did it, own it. “If you're a defendant and you're guilty, you should run not walk to the U.S. Attorney's Office,” he says. White collar criminals can easily survive minimum security prison life, Paperny says. His past clients tell him prison isn't even the hardest part. "They've told me, in retrospect, that the easiest part of the sanction was federal prison,” he recalls. “That the time before they went in was incredibly harder."A judge will decide how long each defendant serves, and history shows judges look kindly on plea deals. There’s a new warning out by the American Psychological Association (APA) that says traditional masculine ideology has been shown to have a negative impact on men and boys.As a father and mentor, Dr. Ryan E. Ross knows expressing emotions is not traditionally what most men consider masculine. “Young men who I work with, when I see them I shake their hand and I give them a hug and I tell them that I’m proud of them and that I love them, so that they know that it's OK, and that's the kinds of things that they should be hearing,” says Dr. Ross. And he's right. According to new findings out from the American Psychological Association, traditional masculinity ideology--which also includes achievement, anti-femininity, and not appearing weak-- can negatively influence mental health and physical health. “You're taught to be tough; you're taught not to cry,” he says. “You know, you're taught certain things are cool you know certain ways certain attitudes.” That's why for the first time in its 127-year history, the APA has released guidelines to help psychologists specifically address the issues of men and boys. They include: encouraging psychologists to recognize that masculinities are constructed based on social, cultural, and contextual norms; understand the impact of power, privilege, and sexism on the development of boys and men and on their relationships with others; and reduce the high rates of problems boys and men face and act out in their lives such as aggression, violence, substance abuse, and suicide. Some people disagree with the APA’s report. In the Washington Observer, Nicole Russell wrote in part, "the APA gets it wrong from the beginning by asserting traditional masculinity holds only these traits, which are not even all negative, as negative."The study's authors say the intention is to educate and raise awareness on the unique issues facing men and boys. 1907

The University of Missouri-Kansas City has filed a lawsuit against a former professor, alleging that he stole and sold his graduate student's research for .5 million.The suit, filed this week, says Ashim Mitra swiped a "groundbreaking" drug formulation from the student and stands to gain as much as million more in royalties.Mitra, who has resigned from the university, denied the allegations to CNN.Also named in the lawsuit are Mitra's wife, who worked in her husband's lab, and two pharmaceutical companies that used the invention.The university alleges Mitra worked in secret with the companies to develop the patent, which outlines an innovative way of delivering drugs to the eye using nanotechnologyThe pharmaceutical product has recently received FDA approval, the university said. It's a treatment for dry eye, an ailment common to the elderly.The university's contentionIn a statement to CNN, the university said:"Mitra stole UMKC-owned inventions, sold them to industry, assisted those companies in patenting and commercializing them, denied credit to a deserving student and reaped a personal financial windfall -- all the while concealing his efforts and denying his involvement."The lawsuit seeks to designate the student, Kishore Cholkar, as the rightful inventor to the patent based on his research from 2010.The university policy is that it owns the rights to discoveries made by staff and students while they are working at the university. When commercial rewards are reaped, the inventor is entitled to one-third of the profits and the school keeps the remaining two-thirds, the school said.The professor's reactionReached by phone Thursday, the professor denied the allegations and told CNN that Cholkar doesn't deserve credit for the patent."Everyone is trying to jump in and get a piece of the pie," he said.He said he conceived of the formulation with the drug companies through his private consultancy business, adding that "the student arrived after the patent was signed."Cholkar's work involved a part of the eye not affected by the drug, Mitra said.He added that he's consulting with his lawyers on how best to tackle the lawsuit.Cholkar, the student, now works at a California-based pharmaceutical company.
