Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order on Thursday that granted pardons to people who have been convicted of possessing one ounce or less of marijuana. “We are finally cleaning up some of the inequities of the past by pardoning 2,732 convictions for Coloradans who simply had an ounce of marijuana or less," Polis said. "It’s ridiculous how being written up for smoking a joint in the 1970s has followed some Coloradans throughout their lives and gotten in the way of their success."This pardon applies to all state-level convictions of possession for one ounce or less of marijuana. This authorizes the governor to grant pardons to people who were convicted of possessing up to two ounces of marijuana. Individuals who fall in this category don't need to apply for the pardon. Those who were convicted of municipal marijuana crimes, or individuals arrested or issued a summons without a conviction, aren't included in the pardons. This new law went into effect in October. President Donald Trump said tonight that he has signed an executive order to shut down the use of Chinese-based social media applications TikTok and WeChat in 45 days.The order specifically prohibits any U.S. transactions with TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, starting on Sept. 20.Trump cited privacy concerns for taking the action against the social media networks.TikTok in particular has gained popularity among younger Americans in recent months for its short, entertaining video clips. The TikTok community has often been critical of Trump. Earlier in the summer, users of TikTok organized by reserving tickets to Trump’s rally in Tulsa, which failed to draw the type of crowds the Trump campaign expected.Trump said in his order that WeChat and TikTok “automatically captures vast swaths of information from its users -- threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans’ personal and proprietary information. Ron Johnson (R-WI) has tested positive for COVID-19, his communications director said Saturday morning.“Senator Johnson was exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 on Sept. 13. Governor Greg Abbott has issued an executive order requiring all Texans to wear a face covering over the nose and mouth in public spaces. The order applies to counties with 20 or more positive COVID-19 cases, with few exceptions. The governor also issued a proclamation giving mayors and county judges the ability to impose restrictions on some outdoor gatherings over 10 people and making it mandatory that, with certain exceptions, people cannot be in groups later than 10 and must maintain six feet of social distancing from others. "Wearing a face covering in public is proven to be one of the most effective ways we have to slow the spread of COVID-19,” said Governor Abbott. “We have the ability to keep businesses open and move our economy forward so that Texans can continue to earn a paycheck, but it requires each of us to do our part to protect one another—and that means wearing a face covering in public spaces.
