MANILA, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday praised China for its "proactive" effort to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Stressing the need to strengthen legislation on public health, Xi called for the assessment of revising laws and regulations concerning infectious disease prevention and treatment, as well as wildlife protection. He also highlighted speeding up establishing a law on biosecurity.
He pointed out that in the first 11 months of this year, trade between China and the EU, according to statistics, was estimated to grow by 7.7 percent from last year. From January to July, EU investment in China was up by 18.3 percent year on year, and sixty percent of EU companies regard China as a leading destination of investment.
Documents including the commission's guidelines on practicing law-based infection prevention and control of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus were adopted at the meeting.
Thongloun conveyed to Xi the greetings of Lao President Bounnhang Vorachit, who is also general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee, and congratulated the People's Republic of China on its achievements since its founding 70 years ago.
