While students in a South Carolina school participated in the National School Walkout this week, a custodian helped herself to their cash, police said.The incident occurred at Richland Northeast High School on Wednesday.Aisha Evans, a custodian at the school, went into a classroom while students were outside and rummaged through three book bags, the Richland County Sheriff's Department said.In all, Evans stole 0, the department said.The custodian was arrested soon afterward and charged with three counts of petty larceny.Evans, 32, was employed by Service Solutions, an agency that provides custodial services to the district's school.The agency terminated the woman, the school district told CNN affiliate WIS."On Thursday, March 15, Service Solutions notified Richland Two that Evans is no longer an employee of the company and was informed that she cannot come on any Richland Two property," Richland Two School District said in its statement to the affiliate.It's unclear whether Evans has retained a lawyer.The-CNN-Wire 1040

When students across the US walk out of class for 17 minutes today, many of them will be wearing orange.It's more than just a simple choice in clothing — it's meant to send a powerful message.The color choice dates back to at least 2013 when 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed in Chicago. Hadiya was an honor student who was killed in a case of mistaken identity -- a week after she performed at one of the events surrounding President Obama's second inauguration.Her parents, Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton and Nathaniel Pendleton, picked the color orange to honor her and to call for gun reform.Why? It's what hunters wear to protect themselves — from other hunters.This is how their organization, We are Orange, explains it:"Orange is what hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others from harm. Orange is a bright, bold color that demands to be seen. What you drive impacts what you breathe.With all kinds of vehicles emitting all kinds of pollutants into our air, many Americans are now suffering from related health problems.“What I feel is tightness all around my chest,” said Karen Jakpor ,M.D., MPH. “Pretend you had to breathe through a straw.”Jakpor lives in California’s Inland Empire, an area east of Los Angeles, that has some of the worst air pollution in the country.After years of breathing in pollutants, Jakpor developed asthma so severe that she lost her clinical career.“That was very devastating to me when that first happened,” she said.Jakpor has since made a career change and is now advocating with the American Lung Association with a goal of getting all internal combustion engines off the road within the next three decades.“There’s so many people who are affected and people dying and yet they don’t even know that air pollution played a role in their medical condition,” Jakpor said.In its new report titled “Road to Clean Air,” the American Lung Association encourages a nationwide shift to electric vehicles by 2050.“Transportation is driving the unhealthy air that affects half of all Americans,” said William Barrett, lead author of this report.He predicts a transition to zero emission technology, for all transportation across America, could save countless lives and billions of dollars.“In the year 2050 alone, we could generate billion worth of public health benefits and approximately 3 billion worth of climate change benefits,” Barrett said.The move to reduce the use of fossil fuels has been an ongoing issue for decades.Now, however, health experts say the need for change is becoming more urgent each day.“Hopefully this report helps move the needle,” said Meredith McCormack, M.D., MHS, associate professor of medicine at John Hopkins University.She says prolonged exposure to car exhaust fumes can cause health issues ranging from heart attacks to lung cancer.To make a national changeover to electric vehicles a reality, McCormack says communities need help from leaders at local, state and federal levels.“For all of us as individuals, we also have our own ability to impact the future,” she said.A future of battery powered cars, however, does come at a cost.For example, a 2020 Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid costs about ,000 more than a 2020 Toyota Corolla with a four-cylinder engine. Whole Foods is getting even more Amazon-y.Amazon, which purchased Whole Foods last year, is offering its Prime members an additional 10% off sale items when they shop at Whole Foods.The additional discount will apply to hundreds of products throughout the stores. To get the discount, Prime members will have to scan the Whole Foods app at checkout, after signing into the app with their Prime membership.Earlier this year, the companies launched free two-hour delivery on Whole Foods groceries in 10 test cities, through Amazon's Prime Now service. Amazon expects to expand that offering later this year.
