SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Days after revealing its move to downtown San Diego's Petco Park, KAABOO announced it's under new ownership.KAABOO's new owner, Virgin Fest, the music festival arm of The Virgin Group, will not change the festival's brand of live music, comedy, art, and culinary experiences, KAABOO said in a release.While Virgin Fest Founder and CEO Jason Felts has acquired all of the festival's assets, KAABOO San Diego itself will also not be rebranded. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As winter approaches, doctors are worried about more than the novel coronavirus."When winter comes we all tend to go indoors, and [viruses are] more likely to spread between us in school, in workplaces it's just going to happen," Dr. Davey Smith, Chief of Infectious Diseases at UC San Diego, said.If you develop a cough, fever, chills and you're achy, Dr. Smith said it could be a variety of viruses."We are going to have multiple viruses running around in the community at the same time. Double triple, it's not just the flu it's RSV that kids oftentimes get, adenoviruses and other seasonal viruses and they all look the same," he said.Dr. Smith is urging San Diegans to get a flu shot, especially this year, concerned about the hospital being overrun, "it's not just the PPE, it's the hospital beds, the doctors and the nurses, and everybody who has to take care of them."Cajon Valley Union School District has had students on campus since July. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Creating a future has its hurdles, and can be especially tricky for people facing poverty or with criminal backgrounds. A San Diego organization is making sure the future is within reach. “I was on probation… I had to go to sober living to get my life right,” said Anthony Johnson. Johnson is a recent graduate of Second Chance, an organization in Encanto that helps kids and adults who have criminal backgrounds or are facing poverty get back on the right track through their programs and job training. “They changed my life," said Johnson. Covering the walls of the classrooms at Second Chance are notes illustrate the hope and want students have for a better future. “Our mission statement starts with the word disrupt. If we can break the past now, then the future has a chance to come into that person’s life,” said Robert Coleman.Coleman is the President and CEO of Second Chance and has been helping people create a future where they can provide for themselves and their families. “Isn’t it better to have people in our community who have hope and have a sense of direction and career and housing and not a journey of crime? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Border officials seized nearly two tons of drugs valued at millions of dollars at San Diego and Imperial Valley ports of entry last weekend.Between June 14 and June 16, Customs and Border Protection says more than 2,638 pounds of marijuana, 1093 pounds of methamphetamine, and five pounds of heroin were seized after being discovered inside doors, flooring, and other areas of vehicles and a tractor-trailer.In one instance, agents at the Calexico Port of Entry stopped a 34-year-old driver on Friday and referred the driver to a secondary inspection. There, canine agents made a positive detection and the port's imaging system discovered anomalies inside the vehicles flooring.Agents uncovered 40 packages of methamphetamine hidden in the vehicle.The same day, a tractor-trailer was stopped at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry, arriving from Mexico with a shipment listed as "watermelons and cactus." An officer referred the driver to a secondary inspection, where a canine officer alerted agents to a positive detection in pallets of watermelons.Agents found 311 packages of marijuana, worth an estimated ,557,000, intermixed with the fruit.During another incident on June 16, agents at the San Ysidro Port of Entry stopped a 35-year-old man where a secondary inspection revealed 86 packages of methamphetamine, with a street value of 3,700.All drivers were turned over to Homeland Security agents for processing and all vehicles and narcotics were seized by CBP. 1494
