Sunbeam Products has issued a voluntary recall of more than 940,000 Crock-Pot multi-cookers in the United States and Canada due to a burn hazard.According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall notice, the Crock-Pot? 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cookers, model number SCCPPC600-V1, were sold at Walmart, Target, Amazon, and other online and nationwide retailers from July 2017 through Nov. 2020 for between to 0.According to the website, the recalled product can pressurize when the lid is not fully locked, which can "cause the lid to suddenly detach while the product is in use, posing burn risks to consumers from hot food and liquids ejected from the product."Sunbeam, which owns Crock-Pot, recalled 914,430 affected products in the U.S., along with another 28,330 cookers in Canada, after receiving "119 reports of lid detachment, resulting in 99 burn injuries ranging in severity from first-degree to third-degree burns," the CPSC stated.Sunbeam manufactured the multi-cookers between July 1, 2017, and October 1, 2018.The notice says date codes K196JN through K365JN and L001JN through L273JN are engraved on a prong of the electrical plugs and the bottom of the base.Consumers should stop using the recalled product in pressure cooker mode immediately. Still, they can continue to use it for slow cooking and sautéing and contact Crock-Pot to receive a free lid replacement."Consumers who continue using the multi-cooker in pressure cooker mode while waiting for the replacement lid should be certain the lid is securely turned to the fully locked position by aligning the arrow on the lid with the lock symbol on the base," the notice said. 1680

TAMPA — A Tampa mom is pleading for help to bring her son home after she says his father moved him Lebanon without her permission.3-year-old Dexter was supposed to spend a court-ordered weekend with his father. Instead, Rachelle Smith says Dexter’s father Ali Salamey, a US citizen, went to the embassy, attained passports for himself and Dexter, and then flew them both to Beirut. “I will never stop looking for you, I promise,” Smith said.Smith says she suspected her son Dexter would be moved to Lebanon by his father and appealed to the court. But Ali Salamey was still able to obtain passports through the Lebanese embassy."I stated that I fear that Mr. Salamey will remove and hide our child. This fear was clearly valid," Smith said. "I am here to beg for any and all help to get my little boy returned." Lebanon does not partake in US extradition laws. It also did not sign the Hague Convention Agreement, an international treaty protecting against cases like these. So as it stands, she has no power to bring him back.Without assistance from the state department and president, she believes she may never see her son again. She is asking Florida Sens. Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio to help her in bringing Dexter home."I would never have thought he would have taken any attempts to separate the child from his mother," Alex Stavrou, the attorney for Ali Salamey, said. "Ali, quite frankly, lived for his son."“Most parents, when this happens to them, they are absolutely paralyzed," iStand Parent Network president Dr. Noelle Hunter said. Hunter knows this all too well. Student loans borrowers are still struggling right now, even with payments on federal loans suspended.Nearly half of borrowers in a new survey from personal finance site Student Loan Hero have lost income during the pandemic. About 34% have had their pay or hours cuts and more than one in three borrowers are experiencing food insecurity.Currently, federal student borrowers have placed in an administrative forbearance, which allows them to temporarily stop making their monthly loan payment. The suspension of payments will last until Sept. 30, 2020, but they can still make payments if they choose. About two months before the pause on federal student loan payments is scheduled to end, advocates are warning we're not ready.“Back in March, when the CARES Act was passed, I think September 30 made a lot of sense at that point. We were hopeful that by September we'd have the virus under control, that we'd be getting back to normal, that things would be reopening,” said Sam Gilford, Director of External Affairs at the nonprofit Student Defense. “But of course, here we are in July and it's clear that's not the case.”Student Defense has been representing students who had their wages garnished months after the CARES Act said that's not allowed.Just last week, the Department of Education said it's still happening to thousands of borrowers.The organization stresses that now is the time to be your own best advocate.“Many people will be eligible for what's called 'income-based repayment,' which is a repayment plan where your payment varies based on your income and if your income drops to certain level, your payment will drop to zero,” said Gilford. “That can be a really good option for a lot of people, but it's something that takes time to get started so don't wait until October 1.”Gilford says to watch out if you contact the company in charge of your student loans and they recommend forbearance instead of income-based repayment. You get a temporary pause on your payments, but interest keeps growing so your loan is getting bigger.There's another reason not to wait to contact your servicer.Student Defense says even in good times, servicers struggle to keep up with the volume of requests and calls from borrowers. Surveillance video captured the moment this week when a bolt of lightning made a direct hit on a home in Daytona Beach, Florida.Cindy Holt's surveillance camera recorded the moment the home's roof was hit by the lightning.She thought her boyfriend, pulling in at the same moment, had an accident."It was huge. It shook the house ... I thought he had actually hit the garage door," said Holt.
