Republican candidate Leslie Gibson has dropped out of the race for Maine's House of Representatives following backlash from controversial comments he made about two student survivors of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting."I am not walking away with my head hung low. I am walking away with my head held high," Gibson told the Portland Press Herald on Friday, saying he had made the decision after conversations with family and friends."It's the best thing for everybody," Gibson added.The Maine candidate drew outrage after posting insulting tweets about two Parkland students -- Emma González and David Hogg -- in light of their national gun control efforts."There is nothing about this skinhead lesbian that impresses me and there is nothing that she has to say unless you're a frothing at the mouth moonbat," Gibson tweeted of González, according to the Press Herald. He reportedly called Hogg a "bald-faced liar." The Twitter account used to make the remarks appears to have been deactivated and Gibson's campaign account has been set to private.Gibson later apologized to González, the Press Herald reports."I would like to extend to you my most sincere apology for how I addressed you," he said. "It was wrong and unacceptable. You are doing work that is important to you. President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, had his White House security clearance restored Wednesday, a person familiar with the matter said, after months of uncertainty stemming in part from his role in the ongoing investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.Kushner was stripped of his interim clearance in February amid an overhaul of procedures governing access to the nation's most sensitive secrets following the resignation of Rob Porter, the President's staff secretary, who had been allowed to remain in his post for months despite allegations of spouse abuse.The Mueller probe has also hung over Kushner's status in the White House, in part because some of the matters under investigation relate to his role during the campaign and the transition, including contacts with Russians, as well as events that occurred in the early months of the Trump presidency, such as the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.In April, Kushner met with Mueller's investigators for a second time and answered questions for seven hours, according to his attorney, Abbe Lowell. Rent the Runway announced on Friday that they would not be reopening their stores.In a blog post, the clothing rental company said they would focus on expanding their drop-off box program, with their New York flagship store turning into a drop-off-only site. According to the company's website, its locations in San Francisco, Washington D.C., and Chicago are permanently closed.The stores were used for customers to drop off items and swap out for whatever they needed."With customers in 76% of US zip codes and RTR stores in only 5 of them, less than 15% of our customers were served by our stores — but the drop-off capability was so loved by them," the company said in the blog post.
