RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - Forest service officials are alerting San Diegans to keep their eyes out for rattlesnakes around property and on local trails as spring sets in.Cleveland National Forest officials found a young rattlesnake hiding in the shade under a drainage pipe at the department's Palomar district office in Ramona this week. The snake was captured and released unharmed, officials said, though "still angry."RELATED: What to do in the event of a rattlesnake biteDespite last year's trends, San Diego has been enjoying a lull in rattlesnake calls. The county has recorded a total of 82 calls since the beginning of 2018, according to Daniel DeSousa, director at the county Department of Animal Services.Last year, San Diego saw a surge in rattlesnake calls to the county. Most of those calls occurred in April but continued well into June. Between January 2017 and March 2017, the county saw 177 calls for rattlesnakes. That number rose to 232 the next month.Traditionally as San Diego heats up, sightings could increase."Due to our very temperate climate, rattlesnakes can be found year round in our County, in communities ranging from the coast to the deserts," DeSousa said during last year's spike. "But snake sightings may spike during hot spells."When encountering a rattlesnake, residents should keep a safe distance away and call county animal services. Animal control officers will be sent out to impound the snake and place it in an area where it doesn't pose a threat to humans.Residents in San Diego County's unincorporated areas or in Carlsbad, Del Mar, Encinitas, San Diego, Santee or Solana Beach can call Animal Services at 619-236-2341. Otherwise, residents should call the respective animal control agency for their city. 1797

President Donald Trump urged his supporters Friday not to boycott two Senate runoff elections in Georgia in January that will determine which party has control of the chamber. His tweet comes after Politico reported Thursday that his continued attacks on Georgia's electoral system have disillusioned his voters and caused some to call for a boycott of the vote.In addition, Politico reports that some of Trump's most ardent supporters on Twitter and the conservative-learning social media platform Parler are accusing the two Republican candidates up for election — Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue — of being "insufficiently pro-Trump" and complicit in the voter fraud conspiracies. On Friday morning, Trump retweeted a Newsmax story about a potential boycott of the Georgia vote. In his tweet, Trump tried to walk the line between continuing to push fraud claims while still rallying the vote."No, the 2020 Election was a total scam, we won by a lot (and will hopefully turn over the fraudulent result), but we must get out and help David and Kelly, two GREAT people," he tweeted. "Otherwise we are playing right into the hands of some very sick people. I will be in Georgia on Saturday!" 1202

President Donald Trump says he did not address reports from U.S. intelligence agencies that said Russia paid bounties to the Taliban in exchange for the deaths of American soldiers in a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week.Trump made the comments in an on-camera interview with Axios reporter Jonathan Swan.Trump said his July 23 phone call with Putin was a call "to discuss other things," particularly nuclear proliferation. The president also claimed that the report "never made it to his desk," even though several media outlets have spoken to administration officials that have said the report was included in a daily intelligence briefing in February.Trump also referred to the intelligence as "fake news," and added that "a lot of people are saying that it's a fake issue."When pressed on intelligence reports that Russia has supplied weapons to the Taliban, Trump seemed to justify the Russians' actions by citing the fact that the U.S. sold weapons to the Taliban when the group was fighting the Soviet Union decades ago. Trump also claimed that those reports had also "not reached his desk," despite Sec. of State Mike Pompeo's comments denouncing the arms sales earlier this month. When asked directly if he reads his daily intelligence briefing, Trump said he "reads a lot" and that he "comprehends extraordinarily well, probably better than anyone (Swan) has interviewed in a long time."Watch Trump's interview in the player below. 1471

President-elect Joe Biden became emotional this week, talking to firefighters, nurses, and other frontline workers in the coronavirus pandemic.“The physical impacts of this virus are devastating. I myself have held the hand of dying patients who were crying out for their families that they can’t see. I’ve taken care of coworkers as they fight for their lives on a ventilator, and knowing they got sick because their hospital or their government hasn’t protected them,” said Mary Turner, an intensive care unit nurse in Minnesota while holding back tears.“I’m sorry I’m so emotional,” she added through tears. “You’ve got me emotional,” Biden responds, while wiping away his own tears. The online roundtable Wednesday came the same day America had a record number of deaths in one day, more than 1,800, and recorded more than 250,000 deaths total since the beginning of the pandemic.“It’s not enough to praise you. We have to protect you, we have to pay you,” Biden told the group of frontline workers.Biden participated in the roundtable from Wilmington, Delaware, where he has a home and has been hunkered down since Election Day.The roundtable is one of several the president-elect has held in the last week, bringing together business leaders, community members, frontline workers, and experts to begin collaborating on possible strategies to control the spread of the coronavirus and rebuild the economy.Biden has convened a coronavirus advisory board to begin working on solutions and strategies for when Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris are sworn into office in January. He has encouraged a nationwide effort to require masks and social distancing. However, state governors would have to make those decisions. 1735

Rescuers worked through the night to attempt to account for all of the victims of Tuesday's Morandi Bridge disaster in Genoa, as Italy's President called for a "serious and severe examination" into why the bridge suddenly collapsed. At least 36 people died when a major section of the motorway in Italy's northwest partially collapsed during a heavy storm, according to Chief of Police Col. Riccardo Sciuto. One entire family died in the accident, Sciuto added.Three French nationals are among the dead, according to a statement released by the French Foreign Affairs Ministry on Wednesday. The death toll is likely to rise as multiple people remain missing. 664
