BEIJING, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke said here Monday clean energy technology is one of the most beneficial areas for U.S.-China cooperation and also the only way for the two countries to keep sustained economic growth and combat global climate change.     Locke, who accompanied U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to China, made the remarks at the Sino-U.S. clean energy round table conference held here Monday.     It has been Locke's third trip to China since becoming Commerce Secretary in March.     "The United States and China have the power and indeed an obligation to alter history for the benefit of all people on the planet," he said.     As the world's most productive and innovative economies, the U.S. and China are uniquely positioned to create the solar, wind, biofuel and renewable technologies that the world wants and needs, Locke said.     "We can do it by making clean energy the prime engine of the economic growth in the 21st century," he said.     Locke said he plans to lead an energy and trade mission to China next March, which would include U.S. firms from new energy technology sectors and make stops in Beijing, Shanghai and other cities.     U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu also attended the conference, who expressed optimism about U.S.-China cooperation in the deployment and development of clean energy technology.     The conference was co-hosted by China's State Energy Bureau, U.S. Department of Commerce and Department of Energy, in a bid to advance mutual pragmatic cooperation in clean energy and promote the development of clean energy technology and industry.

CAIRO, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday met Arab League Secretary General Amr Musa and expressed China's willingness to further its cooperation with the Arab countries by enriching the contents of the China-Arab friendly cooperation. The Chinese premier met the Arab League secretary general at the league's headquarters in Cairo.     "Under the current international political and economic circumstances which are undergoing profound and complicated changes, it is in the interests of both China and the Arab countries to strengthen cooperation which contributes toward world peace, stability and development," the Chinese premier said.     Wen told Musa that China is willing to pool efforts with the Arab League and Arab countries to render the China-Arab Cooperation Forum into a more effective platform which will result in more progress. He reiterated the league's support to China's territorial integrity.     He hoped that the Arab League would cooperate with China in all fields to promote the Arab-China Cooperation Forum and to promote world peace, regional stability and development.

SINGAPORE, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chief of General Staff of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Chen Bingde called on Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and military officials on Friday.     During his meeting with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Teo Chee Hean, Chen said that China and Singapore share common strategic interests in economic development and regional security. In recent years, bilateral military relations have made great progress, he said, adding that the two sides have maintained frequent high level visits and improved the communication and cooperation mechanism. Cooperations on staff training, joint military exercises and ship visits have also been fruitful. BEIJING, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- China will maintain its pro-active fiscal policy and moderately loose monetary policy to buoy the economy in 2010 as many uncertainties persisted at home and abroad, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Sunday. Averting the trend of falling global demand remained difficult, Wen said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.     "Economies of some countries are starting to pick up, but fluctuations are still possible," Wen said.     "China's economy has been on track for recovery. However, the economic performance and operations of enterprises still mainly rely on support from government's policies," Wen said.     "A consolidated recovery in the country's economy does not point to a complete revival and a full revival does not mean China's economy is developing in a sustainable way," Wen said. "The government's economic stimulus package has proved effective."     China's economy grew 8.9 percent in the third quarter, the fastest rate in a year, after expanding by 7.9 percent in the second quarter and 6.1 percent in the first three months, boosted by the massive government investment and record bank lending.     The People's Bank of China, the central bank, scrapped lending limits of commercial banks in November last year.     In the first 11 months of this year, new bank loans hit 9.21 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.06 trillion yuan over the same period last year, far exceeding the full year target of 5 trillion yuan the government set in March.     The government pledged at the Central Economic Work Conference earlier this month that it would stick to the pro-active fiscal policy and moderately loose monetary policy in 2010 to sustain a recovery backed by the stimulus package.     The government would adjust macro-economic policies in line with the changing economic situation and study issues arising during implementation of such policies, Wen said.     China would gear more investment to social welfare, technical innovation and energy conservation and emission cuts next year, Wen said.
