WASHINGTON (AP) — A man suspected of fatally shooting a supporter of a right-wing group in Portland, Oregon, last week was killed as investigators moved in to arrest him. That's according to a senior Justice Department official who spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday. The man, Michael Reinoehl, was killed as a federal task force attempted to apprehend him in Lacey, Washington. The official says Reinoehl was the prime suspect in the killing of 39-year-old Aaron “Jay” Danielson, who was shot in the chest Saturday night. 537

WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden is sharply criticizing President Donald Trump over a report that he says, if true, contains a “truly shocking revelation” about the commander in chief and his failure to protect U.S. troops and stand up to Russia. The New York Times has reported that American intelligence officials concluded months ago that a Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing U.S. troops in Afghanistan. The report says Trump was briefed but took no action. The White House denies Trump was briefed on what it calls "alleged intelligence.” 611

Virginia Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine on Sunday said President Donald Trump continuing to blame Democrats for the lack of permanent protections for young undocumented immigrants is a break with reality."He is either lying or he is completely delusional," Kaine said on CNN's "State of the Union."Trump on Friday said Democrats were responsible for there being no permanent fix on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, claiming, "The Democrats fought us, they just fought every single inch of the way. They did not want DACA in this bill."Kaine noted that then-President Barack Obama established the program, which has protected undocumented immigrants brought to the US as children from deportation, and that it is Trump who moved to end it."One person can save DACA," Kaine said. "If President Trump believes in DACA, all he has to do is retract his executive order from September where he broke a promise to Dreamers and said he was going to end the program."Trump has repeatedly railed against Democrats on DACA, with his comments on Friday coming as the latest such statement in a string of developments on the immigration program.Kaine said on Sunday that lawmakers would continue efforts to reach some kind of permanent shield for DACA recipients, but argued that without a consensus from the Republicans, a solution would require returning his party to power."We're going to keep looking for a solution, but the key is we do not have the support of the White House, we don't have the support of Republicans," Kaine said. "We either have to change their minds, or we have to get more Democrats in office." 1640

WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden’s scientific advisers will meet with vaccine makers in coming days as the presidential transition remains stalled because of President Donald Trump’s refusal to acknowledge that he lost the election. The government’s top infectious disease expert says that delayed handoff to the next administration is especially problematic during a public health crisis. Dr. Anthony Fauci tells CNN, “Of course it would be better if we could start working with them." Biden’s outreach to the vaccine manufacturers comes as the coronavirus pandemic in the United States has entered perhaps its most dangerous phase. The seven-day rolling average for new daily cases stood at 145,400 on Saturday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. 765

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - As COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc on nearly all facets of life – your emergency fund is more important than ever."The industry standard is three to six months of living expenses in some kind of reserve," said Phil Maliniak, Financial Advisor with Wealth Avenue in Virginia Beach.Maliniak says putting together a nest egg is easy."It starts with understanding what you are doing each month a clear vision of where does my money go," he said.He says to start by paying yourself first – then run down a list of all your monthly expenses – and see what surplus is left."Make a checklist of each month, where does it all go, and how do I get my hands on the difference," he stated. To build a surplus, Maliniak says look at things you can ditch. Daily cups of coffee, donuts, streaming services, online shopping, etc. He says then look for incentives."There are little tricks bank accounts and credit card companies have come out with as they pay you every time you buy something or there are cashback options," he said.Another tip, since the virus is limiting what we all can do – stash away the extra income you would have used to go to restaurants, movie theaters, bars, concerts, or sporting events. He says also considers refinancing your loans since the Federal Reserve has slashed interest rates."If you create a reserve, you can create your own bank, and then you can borrow from your bank anytime and determine your own rates," he said. This story was first reported by Chelsea Donovan at WTKR in Norfolk, Virginia. 1550
