With all four major commercial broadcast networks and three cable news channels deciding to air President Donald Trump's primetime address from the White House on Tuesday, Democratic leaders said the party deserves "equal airtime" in response from the networks. Trump announced on Monday that he would deliver the statement at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday on why the federal government needs to build a wall along America's southern border. Trump has demanded more than billion in funding from Congress before agreeing to end a government shutdown that started before Christmas. Democrats have remained steadfast in opposition of funding a wall, but have said it would consider for other border security projects. While networks air opposition responses for events such as the State of the Union, generally primetime statements from the White House go without an official response. Even when the opposition party is given a rebuttal following an address such as the State of the Union, the response lasts only a fraction as long as the President's address. But both Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., believe that Democrats should be granted a longer response. "Now that the television networks have decided to air the President’s address, which if his past statements are any indication will be full of malice and misinformation, Democrats must immediately be given equal airtime," Pelosi and Schumer said in a joint statement. It is unclear exactly how long Trump's address will last on Tuesday. It is also unclear whether network executives will oblige and give Democrats a chance to deliver an official response. 1684

Two days after the American Academy of Pediatrics urged the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to recall Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleepers, the CPSC announced the recall of all 4.7 million of the units on Friday.According to the CPSC, more than 30 infant fatalities have occurred in Rock ‘n Play Sleepers since 2009, after the infants rolled over while unrestrained, or under other circumstances. The announcement comes after an investigation by Consumer Reports indicated that 32 deaths were tied to the rockers. The report came following a CPSC warning last week that tied 10 fatalities to the rockers. The CPSC previously recommended consumers stop using the product by three months of age, or as soon as an infant exhibits rollover capabilities. The CPSC now urges consumers to immediately stop using the product and contact Fisher-Price for a refund or voucher. The recall is for all Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleepers. The sleepers were sold at major retailers throughout the United States for approximately to 9.“We cannot put any more children’s lives at risk by keeping these dangerous products on the shelves,” Rachel Moon, MD, FAAP, chair of the AAP Task Force on SIDS, said earlier in the week. “The Rock ‘n Play inclined sleeper should be removed from the market immediately. It does not meet the AAP’s recommendations for a safe sleep environment for any baby. Infants should always sleep on their back, on a separate, flat and firm sleep surface without any bumpers or bedding.” 1516
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court announced Monday that it will hear a dispute over a Philadelphia Catholic agency that won't place foster children with same-sex couples. The justices will review an appeals court ruling that upheld the city's decision to stop placing children with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's agency because it would not permit same-sex couples to serve as foster parents. The appeals court ruled the city did not target the agency because of its religious beliefs but acted only to enforce its own nondiscrimination policy in the face of what seemed to be a clear violation. The case will not be argued until the fall. 656
