BEIJING, Aug 5(Xinhunet) -- China's machinery industry has rebounded during the first half of this year, but the momentum is likely to slow as the country's economy cools.The machinery industry has grown by 37 percent during the first six months of 2010, with a total output value of 6.59 trillion yuan, according to the China Machinery Industry Federation, a quasi-governmental institution that oversees growth of China's machinery sector.The machinery industry, which has benefited from the government's 4 trillion yuan investment spending spree, enjoyed expansion in large-scale construction projects over the last year. The construction machinery sector reported 54 percent growth during the first half of this year, according to the federation.The strong growth of the industry is based on preliminary statements by several listed machinery companies submitted to the stock exchange.Shanghai-listed Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science and Technology Development Co, which is also planning to launch a listing in Hong Kong, predicted its profit would grow by 50 percent to 100 percent over the first half this year.Sany Heavy Industry Co is also expected to record 85 percent growth this year, according to Ping An Securities. The maker has already reported a growth rate of 170 percent in profit during the first quarter of this year.However, not all machinery industry sectors are reporting the same momentum as domestic demand has decreased this year. New orders in power generation equipment, transmission and substation equipment as well as heavy machinery, have rolled back this year."It is unlikely to see significant growth in the output of power equipment this year and it will probably stand around 117 million kW since the base figure is already huge," according to Cai Weici, vice-president of the federation, adding that China's output of power equipment already makes up half of the world's total."There is also less demand for heavy machinery used in steel production because the industry is eliminating outdated productivity, thus reducing market demand," Cai said.Fixed-assets investment in the machinery industry which has maintained a growth rate of over 40 percent since 2004 slowed down by 27 percent to 79.8 billion yuan, signaling less reserved strength for further growth.In term of exports, the machinery industry will be exposed to several uncertain factors including a more flexible yuan exchange rate as well as rising labor and raw material costs.The federation forecasts the industry's growth rate will be 20 percent in 2010.

URUMQI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 380 Chinese nationals had returned home aboard Chinese chartered flights as of Tuesday night from southern Kyrgyzstan where ethnic clashes have left some 170 people dead.The Chinese government has sent four chartered planes to bring home nationals including business people and students in Kyrgyzstan. Three chartered planes dispatched on Monday and Tuesday have returned and the fourth one left at 9:37 p.m. Tuesday an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, for Osh of Kyrgyzstan to fly home more Chinese nationals.More than 600 Chinese nationals living around Osh have been sent to the city's airport with help from the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Chinese embassy in Kyrgyzstan. BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Prosecutors will have to obtain approval from a higher-level prosecutorate before they order arrest warrants for suspects accused of defamation, officials with China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) announced Saturday.The move came only days after police of Suichang County in Zhejiang Province canceled a warrant for Qiu Ziming, a reporter from the Economic Observer News, who was accused of defamation by a publicly-listed company.The quality of handling criminal cases is the "lifeline" of the work in investigating, supervising and examining police applications to arrest persons implicated in a crime, according to a statement issued by the SPP."To issue low-quality or even incorrect arrest warrants not only violates people's legitimate rights, but also severely undermines the credibility of prosecuting authorities and tarnishes the image of the Communist Party of China and the government," it says.China's Criminal Procedural Law delegated different responsibilities to the three branches of the justice system -- the courts, the prosecutors and the police. Before formally issuing an arrest warrant, prosecutors are required to examine police applications and investigations.In Qiu's case, the reporter had been wanted by the police of Suichang after Zhejiang Kan Specialty Material Co., Ltd. (Kan) accused him of defaming the company by reporting fabricated stories.However, police of Lishui City, which administers Suichang, ordered the county's public security bureau to cancel the warrant for Qiu after a review found the warrant failed to meet statutory requirements.

BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- China continued a five-day military exercise on Wednesday as the country's air defense forces carried out reconnaissance, early warning, electromagnetic interference and ground-to-air attack drills.More than 12,000 Chinese military personnel, along with seven types of military aircraft divided into Red and Blue rivals, took part in the exercise code-named "Vanguard-2010,"-- which started on Tuesday in seven cities across Henan and Shandong Provinces.On Wednesday morning, the Blue forces used reconnaissance planes and electronics warfare aircraft to conduct surveillance and jam the network systems used by the Red forces for command and communications as well as reconnaissance and early warning.A ground-to-air attack drill began at Wednesday noon, as the Blue forces launched unmanned aerial vehicles, fighters and helicopters to attack their rivals.The ground-to-air attack drill will last overnight till 6 a.m. Thursday, military sources said.
