GENEVA, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Top legislators of China and France met here on Monday and reiterated their willingness to further expand cooperation in various areas and strengthen coordination in international affairs.Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China, said his latest official goodwill visit to France was successful thanks to joint efforts by both China and France. It is in the interest of both countries and peoples to strengthen the bilateral ties and deepen cooperation in international and regional affairs, Wu said at the meeting with Accoyer.Bernard Accoyer, speaker of the French National Assembly, said Wu's visit to France is remarkable in Sino-French ties and is fruitful, which will play a constructive role in deepening substantial cooperation and boosting the friendship between the two peoples. BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Prosecutors will have to obtain approval from a higher-level prosecutorate before they order arrest warrants for suspects accused of defamation, officials with China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) announced Saturday.The move came only days after police of Suichang County in Zhejiang Province canceled a warrant for Qiu Ziming, a reporter from the Economic Observer News, who was accused of defamation by a publicly-listed company.The quality of handling criminal cases is the "lifeline" of the work in investigating, supervising and examining police applications to arrest persons implicated in a crime, according to a statement issued by the SPP."To issue low-quality or even incorrect arrest warrants not only violates people's legitimate rights, but also severely undermines the credibility of prosecuting authorities and tarnishes the image of the Communist Party of China and the government," it says.China's Criminal Procedural Law delegated different responsibilities to the three branches of the justice system -- the courts, the prosecutors and the police. Before formally issuing an arrest warrant, prosecutors are required to examine police applications and investigations.In Qiu's case, the reporter had been wanted by the police of Suichang after Zhejiang Kan Specialty Material Co., Ltd. (Kan) accused him of defaming the company by reporting fabricated stories.However, police of Lishui City, which administers Suichang, ordered the county's public security bureau to cancel the warrant for Qiu after a review found the warrant failed to meet statutory requirements.

Graduates of the college will receive a religious bachelor's degree and serve in mosques and Islamic associations across the region.-- Also in late May, the Ministry of Transport issued a statement jointly with Xinjiang's regional government pledging to spend more money-- which will cover 50 percent of the construction costs-- for road building in Xinjiang.-- On June 1 the regulation on reform of resource taxes in Xinjiang, which was jointly issued by the Ministry of Finance and the State Administration of Taxation, took effect, marking Xinjiang as the first region in China to begin such reform.The regulation provides a shift to taxing crude oil and natural gas by price, rather than volume. The reform aims to raise local revenue for the resource-rich Xinjiang.-- From June 9 to June 12, officials of central governmental departments, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Commerce and the National Development and Reform Commission, as well as officials of the China Development Bank, visited Xinjiang to inspect the development of local industries.

BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping left Beijing Monday morning for official visits to Bangladesh, Laos, New Zealand and Australia.Xi was invited by Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed, Laotian Vice President Bounnang Vorachit, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, and Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.It's the first visit of a Chinese vice president to the four states.
