SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A heat advisory went into effect Saturday morning for a large swath of San Diego County as temperatures are expected to soar this weekend.According to the National Weather Service, the advisory started at 10 a.m. and lasts through 8 p.m. Sunday. The agency says temperatures in the San Diego County mountains are expected to reach up to 100 degrees.Further east, an excessive heat warning also went into effect at 10 a.m. Saturday through 8 p.m. Monday for the San Diego County deserts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A North San Diego County teenager was taken into custody Thursday after reportedly making threats to Torrey Pines High School.School administrators reached out to San Diego Police Thursday morning after a 14-year-old freshman was suspended for making verbal and written threats.While investigating, police found that the teen committed the crime of making criminal threats.Officers went to the 14-year-old boy's home around noon on Larkfield Court near El Camino Real and Del Mar Road in Carmel Valley. The boy was taken to the San Diego Juvenile Hall Detention Facility.RELATED: Parents warned of threats to 3 San Diego County schoolsThe teen's father cooperated with officers and the family's home is not being searched at this time, according to investigators.Later Thursday night, police went back to the home where they served a search warrant. Officers spent less than an hour searching the home. It's unclear what exactly, if anything, police found in the 14-year-old's possession. Following the incident, Superintendent Eric Dill released the following statement:"We are working cooperatively with the San Diego Police Department as they investigate a possible threat involving a student. The police contacted the student off-campus. At no time were our students or school in danger. We would like to thank the concerned students who brought this matter to our attention. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A North Park family is appealing for tips after a former high school football star - and recent college graduate - was injured in a drive-by shooting."They thought it was fireworks at first," said Dawn Kinder.Sisters Denisha Montgomery and Dawn Kinder say two Fridays ago, their brother Devante Kinder, 24, and three friends had spent a day at the beach and were driving up to his driveway near Meade Ave. around 9:40 p.m. Devante was at the wheel of the used Mercedes SUV he had saved up to purchase, when neighbors heard about nine shots ring out, and a car drive away. Devante was shot twice in the face."The only thing he could think of was to save his life, and he drove himself to the hospital," said Montgomery.Soon after, his sisters got the news."Unreal and didn't believe it at first actually. There is no way he could be injured in this way," said Montgomery.One of the bullet entered Devante's neck, shattered his cheekbone and lodged in his sinus cavity. The other one grazed his cheekbone."He's devastated ... asking himself why it was him," said Montgomery.His sisters say Devante does not have any enemies. Devante, a football standout at Mission Bay High School, went on to graduate from San Jose State six months ago. He returned home and recently got hired for engineering position in March."Starting his career, saving money. All he could talk about was buying his own condo," said Montgomery.Those plans have been put on pause by the drive-by shooting. Amid a national dialogue on racial injustice, Devante's sisters say they know many families impacted by violence."It's something that shouldn't be happening. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego contractor who admitted to stealing people’s money and not doing the work was sentenced Wednesday. Stephen Hage entered the courtroom as a free man, but left in shackles. Team 10 investigator Adam Racusin exposed the San Diego contractor back in 2018. Late last year, Hage pleaded guilty to three counts of grand theft and two counts of theft from an elder. Wednesday, he was sentenced to one year in custody on the charges. RELATED: Contractor accused of taking money and not finishing the jobWhile he was waiting for sentencing on the charges, a San Diegan now living in Arizona says that hasn’t stopped Hage from working. The man says Hage took his money and didn’t finish the job. The accusations brought up in court today. Prosecutors say total restitution to Hage’s 22 San Diego victims is about ,000. Wednesday, he brought in a check that’s not even close. “To come to court with ,700 after numerous months really isn’t sufficient.”The defense arguing he’s doing the best he can. “He’s not taking money from people and living this life of luxury, he’s barley getting by. After 30 days, Hage will be released to work furlough so he can earn money to pay back his victims.It will be up to Yuma County, Arizona whether or not to press charges there. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A North Park barber salon is on the brink of shutting down due to the coronavirus.Melissa and Christopher Cage met in high school. Melissa grew up in Watts and Christopher grew up in West L.A."I love it, you know, it made me who I am. It made me strong," Melissa said.Christopher said it was a dangerous place to grow up, "shootings, drive-bys, everything. That's why I wanted to get my kids away from that."They got married and in 2013, Christopher was laid off. They had three kids with a fourth on the way and at that moment he said he would never work for someone else again.He went to barber school. Five and a half years ago the family picked up and moved to San Diego with a dollar in Christopher's pocket."I think I gave my last dollar to a bum," he said, his wife nodding behind him. They were grateful to live in their aunt's living room as they saved up for a new place. They built up enough money to rent a run-down North Park house. They remodeled it and created Originality Barber Salon. Christopher has a row of barber chairs in the front half of the business and Melissa has a serene intimate salon in the back.Their challenges didn't end when the doors opened. Melissa said their biggest challenge was being accepted by the neighborhood.In 2018, someone spray-painted a racial slur in front of their shop. They cleaned it up and used it as motivation to succeed."I'm not going to fight hate with hate, I'm not going anywhere so you're just going to keep seeing me, so might as well," Melissa said.When the pandemic first hit, they kept their positive attitude, looking at it as a vacation."It was a vacation but then it started to get a longer vacation and I'm like okay, we're starting to dip into our savings now. I'm like we need to start figuring something out," she said.They were able to reopen for a few weeks, due to the county orders, and then, forced to close again.Multiple loan applications were denied. They said they were trudging through the permitting process to work outside. When Monday came and barbers could once again work indoors, Chris said it could be too late.They have a child with health issues, putting her at greater risk for catching the coronavirus, so they're trying to balance safety with finances.The couple said their goal of the business is to leave something for their children.
