(AP) — The Arizona Coyotes have renounced their rights to their top 2020 draft pick after learning more about his bullying of a Black classmate four years ago.The team parted ways with Mitchell Miller after taking heat for selecting him in the fourth round earlier this month despite knowing of his 2016 assault conviction.Arizona acknowledged it knew about the incident when it selected Miller.President and CEO Xavier Gutierrez said discovering more about it, and the effect it had on bullying victim Isaiah Meyer-Crothers and his family led to this decision."We have decided to renounce the rights to Mitchell Miller, effective immediately," said Gutierrez in a press release. "Prior to selecting Mitchell in the NHL Draft, we were aware that a bullying incident took place in 2016. We do not condone this type of behavior but embraced this as a teachable moment to work with Mitchell to make him accountable for his actions and provide him with an opportunity to be a leader in anti-bullying and anti-racism efforts. We have learned more about the entire matter, and more importantly, the impact it has had on Isaiah and the Meyer-Crothers family. What we learned does not align with the core values and vision for our organization and leads to our decision to renounce our draft rights. On behalf of the Arizona Coyotes ownership and our entire organization, I would like to apologize to Isaiah and the Meyer-Crothers family. We are building a model franchise on and off the ice and will do the right thing for Isaiah and the Meyer-Crothers family, our fans, and our partners. HAMILTON, Ohio -- Pharmacist's Mate 2nd Class Thomas Jesse Murphy was killed in action in 1943 during World War II. It took 75 years for his remains to be returned home.Murphy was just 22 when he was killed during the Battle of Tarawa in the Pacific theater, according to his obituary. Due to the large number of casualties, Murphy and many others were buried in hasty mass graves and not accounted for.His remains were finally identified last October. Murphy's niece, Chantel Oliver, remembers the phone call."Are these people for real? How do you know this is not fake? How do you know this is really happening? Then when I saw the Navy in my sister's living room, I realized this was happening," she said.A procession carried Murphy's remains from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to nearby Hamilton on Friday. "It's about Uncle Tommy," Oliver said. "Giving him his due."Murphy is being buried in a Hamilton cemetery, next to his family members."We have closure now that we have his remains brought back and laid to rest next to my grandfather," Oliver said.Barbara Holland with the group Honor and Remember knows what it's like to wait. GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (AP) — Police in Texas say the actor Eddie Hassell has died in a shooting.The 30-year-old was known for his roles in the NBC show “Surface” and the 2010 film “The Kids Are All Right.”Police say the shooting happened early Sunday in the Dallas suburb of Grand Prairie.Officers responded to the shooting in the 3000 block of West Bardin Road at about 1:50 a.m. and located Hassell suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. First aid was rendered as the Waco resident was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.Police say they don't yet have a motive, but that a car had been taken from the scene of the shooting. No arrests have been made, but police said the car has since been recovered.Investigators are asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect(s) involved.
