WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump and his allies are taking what appear to be increasingly frantic steps to subvert the results of the 2020 election, according to law scholars, including summoning state legislators to the White House as part of a longshot bid to overturn Joe Biden’s victory. Trump also has personally called local election officials in Michigan who are trying to rescind their certification votes in Michigan. His legal team has suggested that a judge order Pennsylvania to set aside the popular vote there. And his allies are pressuring county officials in Arizona to delay certifying vote tallies. During a press conference Thursday, the president's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, who is working on the campaign's lawsuits, made accusations of voter fraud in a handful of states, and seemed to suggest officials in several big cities were working together. "It’s not a singular voter fraud in any one state. There is a pattern in several states," Giuliani said. "To any experienced prosecutor, it would suggest that there was a plan." However, he did not give any evidence or further details about what led him to believe there was a "plan," other than baseless statements that the cities had "a history of corruption."“It’s very concerning that some Republicans apparently can’t fathom the possibility that they legitimately lost this election,” said Joshua Douglas, a law professor at the University of Kentucky who researches and teaches election law.“We depend on democratic norms, including that the losers graciously accept defeat,” he said. “That seems to be breaking down.”Election law experts see this as the last, dying gasp of the Trump campaign and say there is no question Biden will walk into the Oval Office come January. 1774

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has been forced to play defense in states he led comfortably months ago, and on Thursday he set his sights on Ohio. The visit was an attempt to reframe the centerpiece of his reelection pitch. At Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland, the president delivered a short speech promoting his reelection campaign and highlighting his administration's work in the state. Watch his remarks below:Trump promoted the economic prosperity that much of the nation enjoyed before the coronavirus pandemic, and tried to make the case that he's best suited to rebuild a crippled economy. However, Trump's handling of the pandemic has weakened his reelection bid and he's having to spend time and resources in a state he won easily in 2016, but now could be in danger of slipping away.Shortly before the speech, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine's office announced that the Republican leader had tested positive for the coronavirus.DeWine's office said Thursday he took the test as part of standard protocol before meeting Trump. He had planned to join the president on a visit to the Whirlpool Corp. plant in northwest Ohio. The governor's office said DeWine has no symptoms but is returning to Columbus. His office said he and his wife, Fran DeWine, will both be tested there. DeWine then plans to quarantine at his home in Cedarville for 14 days.Lt. Gov. Jon Husted tested negative. 1402

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - For the third time in recent months, a local Boy Scout troop is coping with a heartbreaking theft. As they were getting ready to leave on a camping trip Friday, Boy Scout Troop 722 in Vista realized their camping trailer was gone.Without a trailer, future trips are now in jeopardy. The trailer was parked in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church parking lot when someone broke the padlock and stole the trailer. Because the troop has dealt with vandalism in the past, all their gear is kept in a shipping container. The trailer has a unique bolt on its door, which was put in to prevent people from breaking in.Replacing the trailer will cost the troop ,000.Community members can donate on a Go Fund Me page set up for the troop. If you spot the trailer, contact the Vista Sheriff's Department. In September, a Chula Vista Troop's trailer was stolen, as well as one earlier this month one in University City. Investigators are not sure whether any of the cases are related. 1013

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- After a trip to visit their grandma in Ohio, eight year old Lilly and 12 year old Zachary were driving back to California with their mom and grandma when a wrong-way driver hit their car head-on in Oklahoma, killing all four of them. The wrong-way driver, identified by Oklahoma authorities as 33-year-old Ashley Louise Ricks, survived the crash.Monday, Oklahoma authorities gave an update, saying witnesses smelled alcohol at the scene of the crash. Witnesses and 911 calls also reveal the woman was driving at a high rate of speed and in the wrong direction for at least nine miles before the fatal crash occurred. Authorities said they’re currently investigating her medical history, driver history and taking blood samples before making any charges. The family was driving back to Vista, near San Diego, so Lilly could make it back home in time for school to resume. A GoFundMe created by a family friend shows the kids called their dad and stepmom every day while on vacation, telling them about the fun they’d had on their trip.Sam Homant, the kids’ dad, and their stepmom Melissa Starnes said the last time they talked to their son, it was the night of the crash.“He was excited to come home. We had just got him a brand new bed, a brand new bed that he was just so excited for, this pillow top mattress and he was so excited. And that was the last thing that we said to him,” said Starnes. They described the kids as family oriented and special. Zachary had a creative and kind heart.“He could take Legos and create anything out of Legos. He loved to build, just a smart smart little boy. Very creative. Wanted to be an architect. His imagination was off the rack,” they said.Lilly had similar passions to many little girls her age, but also loved to ride her dad’s motorcycle with him.“She loved makeup and dancing and her dolls. She loved to draw,” they said. The GoFundMe will help pay to bring the kids home. As they grieve, these parents want answers.“They had such a bright future and it’s been taken away by this lady and we don’t know why. We want to know why was she on that road on the wrong side,” said Starnes. 2159
