VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A famous horse jockey known for winning the Kentucky Derby as well as races in Del Mar has been charged with domestic violence. Patrick Valenzuela was charged Wednesday with domestic violence and several other related charges. In October of 2018, Valenzuela pleaded guilty to a separate domestic abuse charge, admitting to hitting his girlfriend at a restaurant in Carlsbad. Prosecutors added that he grabbed his girlfriend’s cellphone and hit her face. They also said he chased her to her car and beat on her window and that she was scared to let him into the vehicle. After pleading guilty, Valenzuela was given three years probation and ordered to a domestic violence recovery program. Valenzuela is scheduled back in court on March 22. 926

WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General William Barr defended the aggressive federal law enforcement response to civil unrest in America as he testified for the first time before the House Judiciary Committee. He pushed back against angry, skeptical Democrats who said President Donald Trump’s administration is unconstitutionally suppressing dissent. The hearing, held Tuesday as the late civil rights icon John Lewis laid in state steps away in the Capitol rotunda, highlighted the wide election-year gulf between the two parties on police brutality and systemic racism in law enforcement, which Barr argued does not exist. Massive protests have sparked unrest across the nation following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police and calls for reform have grown louder.Tuesday's hearing is part of a series of hearings in which Democrats on the committee are holding to investigate what they say has become a politicized department. In his opening statements, Barr referred to an investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign's ties to Russia as "bogus" and asserted that he acts independently of President Donald Trump and his administration. (KGTV) — Two people were arrested this week after a pursuit took authorities from Valley Center into unincorporated Escondido.San Diego Sheriff's Department says the pursuit began just after 9 p.m. near State route 76 near Pala Mission Rd. after a deputy spotted a stolen truck. When the deputy tried to pull the truck over, the deputy says the drier sped off.The chase reached speeds of 90 miles per hour and lasted about 30 minutes, with deputies from Fallbrook and San Marcos assisting in the chase.A spike strip was used and put an end to the chase near the Mountain Meadows community of unincorporated Escondido, the department said.After hitting the curb, the driver put the truck in reverse and rammed into a Sheriff's patrol car, deputies say.No deputies were hurt.The female driver and male passenger of the truck, identified as Sally Arrellanes and Roy James Duncan, were arrested and charged with felony evading, assault with a deadly weapon likely to result in great bodily injury, vehicle theft, conspiracy to commit crime and possession of a stolen vehicle. 1093
