The world’s population has been growing, spiking in the last few centuries, and now sits around 7.6 billion. A study published this week suggests global population will peak around the year 2064 at roughly 9.73 billion people.Researchers looking at the models believe the world’s population will then begin declining, reaching roughly 8.79 billion in the year 2100. Their reasoning for the decline is that “continued trends in female educational attainment and access to contraception will hasten declines in fertility and slow population growth.”According to the study, funded in part by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and published in The Lancet, the five largest countries, population-wise, in 2100 are projected to be India, Nigeria, China, the U.S. and Pakistan. They are projecting America will have a population of roughly 336 million people in 2100. Currently, there are an estimated 331 million people living in the U.S.The average life expectancy in 2100 will be around 80 years old. The Wounded Warrior Project has released its 2017 survey results. The organization says the survey was completed by 34,000 veterans this year. The results showed that more injured veterans are trusting the Department of Veterans Affairs for health care concerns.The results also showed that more warriors are gainfully employed than in past years.Below are some of the challenges faced by veterans who were surveyed.  445

The revolving door of USA Gymnastics' top leadership keeps spinning as the organization struggles to recover from the Larry Nassar scandal.Less than a week after taking over USAG, former US Rep. Mary Bono has resigned as interim president. That means four high-ranking officials have left USAG in the past six months -- even though most came on board after the Nassar sex abuse scandal.Bono took the helm just a month after embattled president and CEO Kerry Perry quit. Perry, who had only been on the job for nine months, was criticized for what many considered to be inadequate action and boilerplate soundbites during the Nassar abuse fallout.On Tuesday, four days after she started her new job, Bono announced her resignation."It is with profound regret, coupled with a deep love for the sport of gymnastics and respect for those who aspire to be great gymnasts, that I today tendered my resignation as the interim CEO of USA Gymnastics," Bono said in a statement. 976

The U.S. Army has announced previously-scheduled leadership changes at Fort Hood as well as an investigation into the chain-of-command actions surrounding the case of Spc. Vanessa Guillen.Gen. Michael X. Garrett, commanding general of U.S. Army Forces Command, is directing that Maj. Gen. John B. Richardson IV formally assume duties as deputy commanding general for operations of III Corps and acting senior commander of Fort Hood.The change will take effect on Sept. 2.Army officials say the change in leadership was previously-scheduled and will enable "continuity of command" as III Corps returns from its role leading the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve.Maj. Gen. Richardson previously served as FORSCOM's director of operations from 2019-20 and was selected in March 2020 by the Department of the Army to serve as the next DCG for III Corps.Maj. Gen. Scott Efflandt will continue to serve as the deputy commanding general for support and will remain at Fort Hood to assist with the reintegration of III Corps as they return from their mission supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.With Maj. Gen. Efflandt remaining at Fort Hood, the Army will announce the name of a new commander for the 1st Armored Division, which Efflandt had previously been designated to lead. That announcement is expected in the coming days.The Army also announced that Sen. Garrett will appoint Gen. John Murray, commanding general of Army Futures Command, and one of the Army’s most senior commanders, to lead an in-depth investigation into the chain-of-command actions related to Spc. Vanessa Guillen.There are currently several investigations underway at Fort Hood. The Army says those investigations are tasked with reviewing a wide range of topics and concerns. According to the Army, Gen. The Supreme Court says Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been discharged from a hospital in New York City and has returned home. The court says Ginsburg, 87, is doing well, two days after undergoing a minimally invasive procedure on Wednesday to “revise a bile duct stent” at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The stent had originally been placed last August, when Ginsburg was treated for a cancerous tumor on her pancreas. Ginsburg announced earlier this month that she is receiving chemotherapy for a recurrence of cancer.Stent revisions are common occurrences and the procedure, performed using endoscopy and medical imaging guidance, was done to minimize the risk of future infection, her doctors said, according to a statement.In May, Ginsburg was hospitalized for treatment for a benign gallbladder condition.Ginsburg has also beaten cancer four times after suffering from pancreatic cancer last year. 921
