INDIANAPOLIS -- Two teachers and a student at Decatur Central High School spent some time in the hospital on Monday after a man got into the school and tried to attack a studentA district spokesperson says anyone entering Decatur Central High School has to be buzzed through a locked door by an employee inside.  Tyrese Little, 18, was buzzed into the school along with family members who had students who attend the high school. The school spokesperson said he was in the main office of the building when he saw a student with whom he had a problem and went into the hall to confront him.“I saw the wrestling coach try to stop him and he couldn’t really stop him and at that point, most of the teachers in that hallway had detained this person and got a hold of him and they had him in handcuffs,” student Jayson Wagner said. “The wrestling coach is a pretty big guy, and he couldn’t even stop him.”A 16-year-old student and two teachers were injured and taken to the hospital to be treated.The school was never placed on lockdown and Little did not have any weapons on him at the time of his arrest. But in an unexpected twist, the couple and the homeless man are charged with making up the story in a scheme to get money.“[This] highlights the promise and the peril of these sites,” says Anna Laitin, with Consumer Reports. “These incredible stories come out; people really touched by this and obviously wanted to help, wanted to give money. Now it's not clear the story was true.”The website GoFraudMe tracks scams on personal crowdfunding sites and has found more than 200 cases in the past five years.Consumer Reports admits it can be a challenge to know if you're giving to a legitimate cause.“It’s really hard. You really have to read carefully and think,” Laitin says. “And maybe give to ones where you know the person personally or you know somebody who can vouch for it, because otherwise you can get caught up especially in these viral ones.”Also, pay attention to how much money is needed and how much has already been donated. It's likely that a Sacramento sheriff's deputy who struck a protester with a patrol SUV Saturday night didn't realize he had hit someone, Sheriff Scott Jones said during a press conference Monday.The patrol SUV struck a woman as she and others gathered in the street to denounce the killing of Stephon Clark, then left the scene, according to video of the incident. The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department."I haven't spoken to the officer about the incident, I'm not even sure that his statement has been taken," Jones said, adding that there has been no change to the deputy's duties at this point during this investigation. August 2020’s temperatures around the world made it the second-warmest August on record behind 2016, and the third-hottest season.Here in the Northern Hemisphere, August set a new record with a temperature departure from average of 2.14 degrees F, beating 2016’s numbers.“The most notable temperature departures from average were observed across Alaska, eastern Canada, the western contiguous U.S., Europe, northern Russia, central South America, Western Australia, eastern Antarctica, and across the North Pacific, the Bering Sea, and the Barents Sea, where temperatures were at least 2.0°C (3.6°F) above average,” NOAA scientists observed.The three-month season, June-August, surpassed the previous global record reached in both 2016 and 2019. This period is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and they also had warmer weather than normal. Australia also had a drier than usual winter, 31 percent below average for precipitation.Globally, the ten hottest Augusts have all happened since 1998, and the five warmest have happened since 2015.Scientists believe 2020 will very likely rank in the top five warmest years on record.Also noted in the report, arctic sea ice continues to decline.
