SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- People throughout San Diego County are searching for answers after hearing a mysterious boom Wednesday afternoon. Dozens of San Diego Residents in La Jolla and Del Mar took to Twitter after hearing the noise before 12:45 p.m. "Felt it in La Jolla / Windansea - even my dogs started barking," one Twitter user said, referring to the noise. Several people wondered whether or not an earthquake could be to blame, but according to the United States Geological Survey, the nearest earthquake was a 2.9 magnitude near Corona reported at 4:16 a.m. Wednesday. USGS' website states that, "reports of a bang are a clue that it's a sonic boom, but not an ironclad indicator since shallow earthquakes often sound like booms or bangs."10News has reached out to military officials to see whether or not military exercises may have caused the boom.The Marine Corps, however, did send a statement that reads, in part: "While we are aware of media reports of a possible sonic boom, no 3rd MAW units have reported one in San Diego air space. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police officers saved a parrot from a hot car in Sorrento Valley, as temperatures reached upwards of 120 degrees inside the vehicle.San Diego Police say someone noticed a Macaw parrot in a car in distress at a hotel parking lot in the 11000 block of Vista Sorrento Parkway. A San Diego Humane Society officer responded and tried to break the window, before calling SDPD for assistance.Police broke the window and removed the parrot and rushed it to a veterinarian.A police officer told ABC 10News that the temperature in the car was at least 120 degrees. The bird only had a cup of liquid in a Big Gulp cup and no food.It's a misdemeanor to leave an animal unattended in a hot vehicle.San Diego Humane Society said the parrot is doing okay and the owners have been reached to reclaim the bird."Cars get hot very fast, so we advise never to leave an animal unattended in car, especially when it is warm outside. Even with the windows open, a parked car can quickly become a furnace. If the temperature outside is 80 degrees, the temperature inside your car can quickly climb to 120 degrees. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - NASA's Mars-bound rocket launch from Southern California could leave San Diego gazers disappointed.Saturday's launch window could be blanketed behind a thick layer of morning fog, according to meteorologists. Vandenberg Air Force Base is forecasted to see partly cloudy skies through the morning hours.The fog, however, may not be enough to scrap the launch. InSight's launch director Tim Dunn said during a briefing Thursday that, "We got 'go's' from all aspects, all organizations that have a vested interest in launching InSight," Space.com reported. RELATED: Mars-bound NASA launch will be seen from San DiegoThe launch is currently scheduled for Vandenberg between 4:05 a.m. and 6:05 a.m. NASA has given a six-month time window to set InSight for Mars.Regardless of fog, officials have given the all-clear for NASA's first interplanetary launch on the west coast.But that shouldn't deter San Diegans from trying to catch a glimpse — even if just a blurry bright light in the distance. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – On Friday, the president of San Diego's Christian Youth Theater (CYT) held a press conference addressing this week's claims by several former students that they experienced sexual misconduct or sexual abuse by former teachers.CYT President Janie Russell Cox said the San Diego branch will remain dark until further notice as they investigate these abuse claims. “We are fully committed to the safety of every single child and we are grieving for every single individual whom we love and we care so deeply for. We apologize. [We] love you,” Cox added.The El Cajon-based program was founded 40 years ago and is for students ranging from 4 years old to 18 years old. CYT claims to be the largest youth theater group in the country with branches nationwide.Artist Brian Justin Crum, who went on to become a finalist on America's Got Talent, told ABC10 News on Friday that when he was 13 years old, his former CYT teacher invited him to a gay pride event. “I remember him questioning my sexuality and saying basically, like, you should come to this thing and see what you think and see how you feel when you're there and we can go together. I'll take you,” Crum said. “It was creepy. It felt inappropriate.”Crum said he was not assaulted but boundaries were crossed. “There was definitely a culture there where the teachers and the students were too close,” he added.On Tuesday, attorney Jessica Pride told ABC10 News that she's representing a former student who claims to have been sexually abused and several other former students have been contacting the law firm. “I think over the next couple of weeks as things unfold, you're going to see that this was just rampant at CYT and that they didn't do anything to protect these children,” said Pride.When asked Friday about whether staff ignored complaints from former students against former teachers, Cox replied, “I can't answer that. I don't have enough knowledge to know what decisions were made at that time and that's part of our investigation to find out.”Cox told reporters that CYT is starting a diversity committee and looking at doing restructuring to diminish favoritism, nepotism, and discrimination. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - President Donald Trump said San Diego "needs a wall" while he toured eight border wall prototypes along the county's southern border Tuesday.During his visit, the president stopped intermittently during his inspection of the structures to discuss the wall and, at times, slam the state over its immigration policies."For the people that say no wall, if you didn't have walls over here you wouldn't even have a country," Trump said at the prototypes. "And, by the way, the state of California is begging us to build walls in certain areas.
