A manhunt is underway for a University of Connecticut senior suspected of killing two men last Friday. Law enforcement agencies in multiple states are searching for the suspect, 23-year-old Peter Manfredonia.Manfredonia is accused of killing 62-year-old Ted DeMers and 23-year-old Nicholas Eisele before forcing Eisele’s girlfriend into her vehicle and fleeing the state with her. The 23-year-old girlfriend was located Sunday at a rest stop near Paterson, New Jersey, with her 2016 Volkswagen Jetta and was not hurt, according to police.Meanwhile, Pennsylvania State Police say Manfredonia was dropped off by an Uber in front of a Walmart in East Stroudsburg before walking behind the store and onto a set of train tracks on Sunday. A surveillance photo shared by authorities appears to show Manfredonia walking on the tracks in a white t-shirt and dark colored shorts, carrying a large duffel bag. Police believe the bag is full of guns that the suspect stole from a home invasion in Connecticut.??UPDATE??SUSPECT was last seen yesterday (Sunday) afternoon in East Stroudsburg, Monroe County, PA. After reports circulated last week that President Donald Trump had pushed for a policy that would release undocumented immigrants into sanctuary cities, Trump appeared to attempt to put the policy in practice via Twitter on Monday."Those Illegal Immigrants who can no longer be legally held (Congress must fix the laws and loopholes) will be, subject to Homeland Security, given to Sanctuary Cities and States!" Trump tweeted just after noon ET.Last week, the New York Times and other outlets reported that the Trump administration 544

A new study shows that women who take birth control pills are less likely to develop the most aggressive types of ovarian cancer. "Among those who used the birth control pills, there were 46 percent lower odds of being diagnosed with ovarian cancer that resulted in death within 12 months of the diagnosis," Jennifer Mongiovi, a PhD student at the University at Buffalo and one of the authors of the study, said. The research also found over a five year period birth control pills reduced the likelihood fatal ovarian cancer by 32 percent. "By taking birth control pills, you can stop as much damage being done to your ovaries from your ovulation, and essentially lower your risk of future damage, such as cancer," Mongiovi said. However, researchers said that before you go out and buy birth control pills, you should consult with your doctor about your medical history and what is appropriate given your circumstances."With anything there are trade offs on both sides. Birth control is a hormone so you are potentially putting yourself at a greater risk of breast cancer. So that's something you definitely need to review your medical history. What essentially is the biggest risk to you," Mongiovi said. The research was conducted at Roswell Park. 1259

A nearly 7-hour long standoff which began with six officers getting shot while serving a warrant has to an end late Wednesday evening, Philadelphia Police confirmed. As of early Thursday morning, a SWAT unit was in the process of clearing th scene.Police spokesman Eric Gripp said that the six officers were released from the hospital by late Wednesday evening. An officer who was injured in an accident while responding to the scene remains hospitalized. Gripp said that law enforcement attempted to make contact with the suspect who was barricaded throughout the evening. Officials from ATF confirmed were on the scene, assisting local police. Philadelphia Police requested the media not air live helicopter footage of the officers' tactical positions. Officers held those positions all evening despite spurts of gunfire.Ross told reporters that officers attempted to serve a warrant at a residence near Temple University around 4:30 p.m. Officers reached the kitchen of the residence when the suspect began shooting at officers. Ross said that officers dove through windows and took cover to avoid the gunfire. Following the shooting, officers retreated as dozens of other units responded. Temple University also was in a lockdown. Two officers who were trapped in the residence for several hours were freed, Gripp confirmed. Gripp's announcement came nearly five hours after the incident began. 1409

A New Zealand island volcano vented more steam and mud Wednesday, prompting authorities to delay plans to recover the bodies of victims from a deadly eruption two days ago.Volcanic tremors on White Island were intensifying to a level not seen since an eruption in 2016, the GeoNet seismic monitoring agency said, calculating a 40% to 60% chance of another eruption within the next 24 hours.Meanwhile, Australia was sending a military plane to bring some of the Australians injured in the eruption to Australia for specialist medical care. Authorities expected to transport 10 injured patients to New South Wales and Victoria states, beginning Thursday.Six deaths have been confirmed in Monday’s eruption, which sent a tower of steam and ash an estimated 12,000 feet (3,660 meters) into the air. The bodies of eight other people are believed to remain on the ash-covered island. And 30 people remain hospitalized, including 25 in critical condition. Many of the injured suffered severe burns and were being treated at hospital burn units around New Zealand.GeoNet said in an early evening update that shallow magma within the volcano appeared to be driving the increased activity. It also said there was a low risk to the mainland. The volcano is about 50 kilometers (30 miles) off New Zealand’s main North Island.Police believe 47 visitors were on the island at the time of the eruption, 24 of them Australian, nine Americans, five New Zealanders and others from Germany, Britain, China and Malaysia. Many were passengers aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Ovation of the Seas. Survivors ran into the sea to escape the scalding steam and ash and emerged covered in burns, said those who first helped them. Geoff Hopkins watched the eruption from a boat after visiting the island and told the New Zealand Herald the eruption quickly turned menacing. He told the paper that injured people transported on their boat were horrifically burned on their exposed skin and even under their clothes. The first confirmed death was of a local man, Hayden Marshall-Inman, a guide who had shown tourists around the island. Former Whakatane Mayor Tony Bonne said Marshall-Inman was a keen fisherman and well-liked. In the town touted as the gateway to White Island, the volcano has an almost mystical significance, its regular puffing a feature of the landscape. Whether the island, also known by its Maori name Whakaari, will ever host tourists again remains uncertain. Many people were questioning why tourists were allowed to visit the island after seismic monitoring experts raised the volcano’s alert level last month. The island had been mined for sulfur until a 1914 accident in which at least 10 people were killed, and a landslide destroyed the miners’ village and the mine itself. The island became a private scenic reserve in 1953. Daily tours allow more than 10,000 people to visit every year. 2904
