Johns Hopkins University said Monday that the number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide reached 20 million, but the actual number of infections could be far higher as testing standards vary from country to country.Of the 20 million confirmed cases, the US represents over 25% of the worldwide cases, surpassing 5 million. Brazil has the next highest number of confirmed coronavirus infections with over 3 million. To date, there have been 733,000 coronavirus-related deaths per Johns Hopkins’ figures. With 167,370 deaths as of Monday evening, the United States represents 22% of all global coronavirus-related deaths. The US has 4% of the world’s population. While many modern nations, including much of Europe, East Asia, Oceania and Canada, have largely gotten control of the spread of the virus, coronavirus cases are increasing in much of Latin America and India, in addition to the United States. 914
JOHNSON COUNTY, Kansas — Roughly 5,000 mail-in ballots will be tabulated in Johnson County Friday. The results from the mail-in ballots will be released beginning at 8 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m.The ballots could widen the margin between the two leading Republican primary candidates for governor: Secretary of State Kris Kobach and Gov. Jeff Colyer. When polls closed on Tuesday, slow reporting in Johnson County delayed results. Once the numbers came out the following morning, Kobach led by fewer than 200 votes.Since then, the numbers have been contested, but a 41 Action News county-by-county tally shows Kobach still in the lead. The Secretary of State’s office said it should have all the advance ballots that were mailed in, and any other unofficial election results that were not previously reported on election day.Provisional ballots will be reviewed and counted next week by individual counties. They must certify the results between Monday, Aug. 13 and Monday, Aug. 20.Colyer has asked Kobach to recuse himself from giving local election officials advice. 1081

JULIAN, Calif., (KGTV)-- Thousands of people took advantage of the first significant snowfall of the season by making the trip to Julian. While the locals invite visitors to enjoy their small mountain town, they say some of them trash the place before they head back down the mountain. For 4-year-old Frankie Miller, playing in the snow is a special treat. "It's a holiday weekend! What better thing to do than drive to Julian and eat pie?" Frankie's mother, Karine Breed, said. Her family came to Julian to get a jump on the holiday season. So did thousands of others. "Sunrise highway was closed, but we were stubborn. We came up to 79. And we are finally here!" Kristian Roque said. The roads coming into Julian were shut down due to the heavy snow on Friday. But they were reopened by Saturday morning.LATEST WEATHER FORECAST | CHECK TRAFFICTo make sure everyone has a good time are volunteer foot patrollers, Kurt Boettcher and John Jones. "Everybody here comes to Julian happy and smiling," Boettcher said. "And we like to keep it that way." Boettcher is a 30-year Julian resident, who has been assisting the San Diego Sheriff's Department as a Volunteer Foot Patroller for the last fifteen years. It's important to have fun, but residents remind visitors to be respectful of their small mountain town, and the people who call it home. "We find everything from cups to diapers to other trash," Boettcher said. "People have to clean up. It's pathetic."RELATED: Heading to San Diego's snow? Prepare for icy roads, delaysIn years past, people have climbed into the Pioneer Cemetery to go sledding. They end up destroying tombstones and leaving mounds of trash on the streets. Little Frankie Miller's family, who hails from Solana Beach, knows the feeling. "We deal with Del Mar Racetrack, and Kaboo," Breed said. That is why they say they make sure to leave Julian, cleaner than when they came. "Obviously, you have those hooligans, so hopefully they just are respectful and considerate of the people who live here and clean up after themselves," Breed said. For our senior patrollers, that makes it all worth it. "A small community always has the connection. That's the fun part. That's the fun part of Julian," Boettcher said. 2239
KGTV - A video appearing to show the arrest of an undocumented immigrant is making rounds on the internet. The incident was livestreamed on Facebook by Ryan McAdams, who says he was out with Watkins Bail Bonds on Sunday when they were called to collect a client they had bonded out for a crime.“A relative of the individual in the video called the bond office that the individual didn’t have his papers in order and he was looking to abscond,” said McAdams “and go back south over the border.”McAdams adds that what he recorded and posted to Facebook is a legit operation. However, some like Chicano activist Alexis Del Castillo says the video is tasteless and shows the exploitation of an immigrant.“He didn’t just bully him he like tormented him in front of everyone,” said Del Castillo, “I think it takes someone really despicable to do that sort of thing.”McAdams says he knows some people see it a certain way, but he just wants people to understand the reality others have to deal with.“He was in there for a DUI arrest and he was going to flee on that leaving a company ,000 dollars behind,” said McAdams, “Everyone is held up to the same laws.” 1191
