SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Surveillance footage captured a man attacking a gas station customer in Kearny Mesa before fleeing.A 54-year-old man was paying for his coffee at the Mobil station at 8380 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. on Saturday just after 3 p.m., when the suspect began speaking to the man. Police said the suspect was not making any sense when he was speaking to the victim.Then for no reason, the man pulled a small wooden bat from a tool bag and began to hit the victim on the back of his head. He fled from the business, running southbound on Kearny Mesa Road, police say.RELATED: Surveillance video captures deadly crash in Chula VistaThe victim was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for a concussion, cut to his head, and broken finger.Police said the suspect was wearing a yellow construction helmet, black hooded sweatshirt with a yellow reflective vest over it, work gloves, dark pants, and work boots. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The aunt of a Marine who was rescued after an amphibious assault vehicle accident Thursday off the coast of San Clemente Island says he is recovering well.Catrina Tomamichel said her nephew Dallas, 22, drowned before his brothers in arms rescued him."They pulled him out of the water, my understanding is there is someone, I don't know their name but I want to say thank you, they gave him CPR," says Tomamichel.She said he was airlifted to the hospital and he's now recovering at Balboa Naval Medical Center. She said he is able to walk and already asking to go back to work. RELATED: Service members in deadly Southern California amphibious assault vehicle accident identified"God has just been amazing, it is nothing less than a miracle that he'd doing as well as he is," Tomamichel said, though she's concerned about the blood they found in his ears.He found out over the weekend nine of his comrades in the AAV did not make it out alive. "We don't know how he's doing since he learned that news, we are really concerned for him... It's pretty difficult to lose your family and they are family," says Tomamichel.Thursday night, five Marines were rescued after the training accident and are back on their assigned ship. Dallas and another Marine went to the hospital, a Marine was found dead and seven Marines and one sailor remained missing.RELATED: Safety examined after deadly Southern California amphibious assault vehicle accidentMarines, with help from the Navy and Coast Guard, searched more than 1,000 nautical miles. The Navy is using their Remote Operated Vehicle to continue the search for the AAV and the victims. The AAV is assumed to be about 1,500 meters offshore and 200 yards underwater.Officials announced early Sunday morning they are moving from rescue to recovery efforts for those missing. In a tweet, the First Marine Expeditionary Force said they, "mourn the loss of the 7 Marines and a sailor of the 15th MEU. To not have all the answers right now is heartbreaking." "We are devastated for them and we are praying for them," Tomamichel said. "We never thought that this would happen, but you know what? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The former gang member who killed San Diego Police officer Archie Buggs in 1978 was granted parole suitability Thursday.Jesus Cecena was 17 years old when he opened fire on Officer Buggs during a traffic stop in Skyline. According to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, Cecena fired five times at Buggs, then paused, walked toward the fallen officer and fired a final bullet into his head at point blank range. The officer died on the street, his hand still on his service revolver.Cecena was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. His term was later modified, due to a change in law making him eligible for Youth Offender Parole.Cecena has been denied parole at least 13 times. Governor Brown reversed the parole board’s decisions to release Cecena in 2014, 2015 and 2017, citing the seriousness of the crime.RELATED: San Diego Police honor officer shot and killed by gang memberIn 2014, 10News reported that Cecena’s unstable social history continued during his incarceration, where authorities said he received more than ten violation reports for misconduct while in prison.Thursday’s parole board recommendation will move into a 150-day review period, according to a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman. After that period, the Governor will have 30 days to uphold, reverse, modify, send it to the full Board of Commissioners for another review, or take no action.The parole review period will end in January 2019, after the end of Governor Jerry Brown's term, leaving the decision in the hands of his successor. 1609

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego is resuming its enforcement of all parking regulations this month.From Wednesday, July 1, through July 14, the city will issue written warnings for vehicles parked in violation of:-- Posted street sweeping routes-- Metered parking restrictions-- Curb time limits-- Commercial zonesCitations will continue to be issued for vehicles parked illegally at red, white and blue painted curbs. Drivers are encouraged to follow posted signage when looking for a parking space.Starting Wednesday, July 15, citations with fines will be issued.On March 16, the city suspended citations for vehicles violating street sweeping, metered parking, time limits and yellow commercial zones due to state and San Diego County stay-at-home orders amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 802

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The mother of the hero pilot who made an emergency landing Friday on I-8 in El Cajon says she couldn't be more proud.Kelly Muno said Friday afternoon she got an urgent call from her daughter, "She's like don't panic mom, mom, Ryan's okay."READ RELATED:?Plane lands on Interstate 8 freeway in El CajonShe turned on the TV and saw her son landing a Piper with his student pilot, a 36-year-old man, on board, "I felt like I was in one of those airplane games, he just came in gliding near all those cars, did you guys see when that kid was like, 'Hey dad watch out for the airplane?' Father Son Holy Spirit," she said crossing herself, "and I dropped to my knees."Muno had a career in aviation, performing duties from flight attendant to loading the aircraft and working on flight plans. Just watching the video made her tear up, knowing his safe landing was a miracle."We're all blessed. If I had lost Ryan, but he saved so many people," she said wiping away a tear.Muno said Ryan's been an instructor for two years, pursuing his second dream after a concussion during a baseball game changed his trajectory."When he was a little baby he used to lay down in the first class cabin and just go to sleep," she said he found his love of flying from growing up traveling with her.After his emergency landing, she's not too keen on him jumping back into the cockpit.Last night she urged him to hang out with his friends, or his father, "because if I get you, I'm never going to let you go," she said choking back tears.She said Ryan is probably going to go back to work tomorrow. He is also waiting to hear back from United Airlines. She said he applied to be a pilot with them and hopes to find out if he got the job by next month. 1801
