Three days after Hurricane Michael unleashed its wrath in the Florida Panhandle, residents in some of the hardest hit areas are growing desperate for food and water.Long lines have formed outside fire stations, schools and Salvation Army food trucks as residents try to secure anything from bottled water and ready-to-eat meals to hot meals.PHOTOS: Hurricane Michael damageFlorida Governor Rick Scott tweeted on Saturday that millions of meals and gallons of water are already on the way to the impacted communities.The death toll from Michael has risen to at least 17 and nearly 900,000 customers remain without power in seven states. The storm that smacked Florida's Panhandle was one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit the United States, leaving a trail of destruction stretching as far as Virginia. The misery from its impact will likely linger for weeks or even months.On Saturday, emergency crews will continue descending into the coastal cities in the Panhandle, like Mexico Beach, that were wiped out and will try to reach remote areas that were isolated by downed trees and power poles. 1107

This is typically one of the most exciting times of the year, with high school football getting close to kicking off the season.Unfortunately, COVID-19 sidelined football and a bunch of other sports."It's a concern," says Caledonia, Michigan, clinical psychologist Dr. Nicole Beurkens, "because surveys throughout this pandemic have shown that student-athletes, in particular, are showing rates of anxiety and depression that are steadily increasing and rates of physical activity that are decreasing."It's a combination that Dr. Beurkens says can cause some serious problems."People often underestimate how connected those two things are," she says, "But the research shows us over and over again that getting some form of physical movement, physical activity, or exercise in on a daily basis is critical for supporting our mental health, and that's especially true for children and for teens."So, with many sports in a timeout, Dr. Beurkens says parents should be looking for signs of mental health issues."I think that if parents start to notice that their child is withdrawing more and more, not participating in things that they used to participate in, withdrawing more from the family, getting a lot more irritable, maybe feeling more anxious about things, expressing more hesitation to do things that they were comfortable doing, those are signs that anxiety or depression may be an issue."She says keeping your kids active during this time is invaluable."For kids still to be involved in physical activities around weight training practice, many of the schools are working on how to safely have kids together to continue to participate in drill training, in working on things that they work during the season, even though they won't be competing. In 2011, he moved to the Escondido location on East Valley Parkway. He initially enjoyed his time working there."[I liked] the customer service interaction, solving the customer problems and issues, and of course, developing employees," Girsch said. In 2014, he became supervisor for the paint department. According to his lawsuit, he noticed what he believed to be "unlawful activities concerning hazardous waste disposal" at the store where he worked."They were literally dumping hazmat down the garbage containers that was going to the landfills," Girsch said. He said he filed a complaint with the Environmental Protection Agency in late 2014 and also had numerous conversations with investigators about Home Depot violations. "I reported what I felt was illegal," he said. After that, he claimed retaliation began. He was accused of safety violations and according to his lawsuit, "repeatedly denied promotions and targeted for discipline.""I ran a five million dollar department, which was the paint department, and I was subsequently in 2017 demoted to the tool rental," Girsch said.Home Depot was fined millions in March 2018 for hazardous materials and customer privacy violations. An investigation between the Attorney General's office and several prosecutors' offices, including San Diego, resulted in a .8 million dollar settlement. The San Diego County District Attorney's Office could not reveal which local Home Depot locations were investigated, but did say all the ones inspected in the county revealed unlawful hazardous waste disposal."You will not silence my voice," Girsch said. "[Home Depot knows] the issues. They've ignored time after time, any attempts to resolve the issues."A Home Depot spokesperson told Team 10: "We disagree with his claims, which we'll address in the proper form."
