BEIJING, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and high-ranking military officials on Tuesday watched a play honoring an outstanding military archivist.Liu Yiquan had worked as a file clerk and later a consultant at the archives of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) for about 38 years. He had collected more than 830,000 pieces of military archives, which was regarded as a special contribution to the army.Despite being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2008, Liu continued to work hard. SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- A trilateral meeting among three Northeast Asian countries is slated for Tuesday in Seoul as the three countries seek to launch a joint research on a free trade pact, Seoul's trade ministry said Monday.According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the three Northeastern countries are set to discuss on terms of reference on the joint research, as well as the schedule for holding next rounds of dialogue, the ministry said.China, South Korea, and Japan decided at their summit talks on Oct. 10, 2009 to terminate private studies on the issue and to push for a joint research at an administrative level.In addition, the ministry said, the three nations as a follow- up measure agreed to launch the research in the first half of 2010 and to hold a preliminary meeting in Seoul.The private studies on the trilateral free trade pact started in 2003 when the first research was conducted on the macroeconomic impact of the deal, according to the ministry.

BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Information and Technology (MIIT) issued a guideline Sunday, urging the nation's auto producers to establish quality accountability mechanism to improve quality management.The MIIT warned auto production enterprises against blind expansion, urging them to focus more on technology upgrade and improve product quality by using "new technology, new technics, new equipment and new materials."Auto producers were also asked to strengthen after-sale service, setting up an accountability mechanism to timely recall and deal with the faulty products.As China's auto industry is at a stage of rapid development, it should take effective measures to ensure product quality, so as to prompt the industry to develop in a sound and healthy way, said an official with the MIIT.Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed that new auto sales rose 46.15 percent year on year to 13.64 million units in 2009 in China, helping the country overtake the United States as the world's largest auto market.

BEIJING, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Principled consensus was reached between China, European Union Naval Force, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), China's Ministry of National Defense said on Friday.The consensus, outlining the shipping escort cooperation based on "areas of responsibility" in the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor (IRTC), was approved Thursday at the the plenary meeting of the Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia in New York, said a statement from the ministry.Previously, China had suggested cooperation be based on "areas of responsibility" under the UN Security Council resolutions while EU, NATO and CMF proposed coordination guidelines of the IRTC.China and the three parties conducted rounds of consultations at the contact group meeting, international coordination meeting in Beijing and the Shared Awareness and Deconfliction (SHADE) system meeting in Bahrain.The final principled consensus absorbed components of "areas of responsibility" in escort missions cooperation and the coordination guidelines of IRTC, showcasing concerted effort by all parties.China always takes a positive and open attitude towards international cooperation on shipping escorts, and would like to cooperate with countries and organizations in line with UN Security Council resolutions for peace and stability in the Gulf of Aden and Somalia waters, said the statement.
